View Full Version : 75g JHP for Reloading

I want to load up about 1000 75g JHP for a SHTF stash, not for normal self defense so spare me that argument. I have 1000 147g 9mm Gold Dots loaded up for my pistol. I have a bunch of Hornady TAP factory 2.23 75g and am hoping to load up something similar. I cant seem to find any Hornady TAP bullets for reloading. Anybody have anything that will be similar to the TAP? I have loaded up some 69g SMK, but I have read that it may or may not be a good defensive bullet. So anything 75g or 77g that will be a good defensive SHTF bullet.

If you haven't already, read this thread: http://m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=19881

I load the 77 gr. Nosler OTM when I can find it, but have found the Hornady 75 gr. OTM to be an almost interchangable substitute. Either would serve you well.

I prefer 77 grain Sierra bullets the the Hornaday 75 grain OTM due to accuracy edge and velocity edge in my guns. Here is a source however for TAP bullets.

My current load is 21.8 grains of N135 over a Federal Match Primer in Lake City Brass. This is what it can do. My chrono average is 2492 in a 14.5 inch Noveske.

I went out and did some accuracy testing today. I found that H335 and N135 are much more accurate in my Noveske than Ramshot TAC.

Looks like I will be using either N135 or H335 at the larue match. I really wanted to use the TAC because its about 200 fps faster but the groups are not nearly as good.

It was a beautiful day so I spent it at the range. Temperature was 40 with no wind and the sun was out. I took my chrono out because I wanted to see how my 77 grain 5.56 load would do in my guns for velocity. I am going to the Larue match in Texas this year and I am working on a good long distance load. Here are the chrono results
