View Full Version : 5.56 load info
anyone have a good load data they use plinking and hunting?
If your not looking for M193 type velocities, I load a Hornady 55g fmj-bt over 25g of AA2230. Gets about 3025 fps out a 20".

This is the exact load I use as well, but with PPU/Winchester/Lake City bullets, and CCI #41 and Wolf Primers (specific for .223 rem)
Published load data goes 24-26 grains IIRC, so 25.0 is middle of the road.
I used to use 24.5 gr, but i'd get short strokes with my extra power buffer spring and H2 buffer every now and then without a suppressor (my setup reflects that I run suppressed every chance I can).
If you are going to use heavier bullets down the road, consider using just Ramshot TAC. TAC works well enough for 55 gr plinkers, and is also one of the preferred powders for slinging match bullets (75-77 gr). It's a ball powder, so it meters great in powder dispensers too. AA2230 aint a bad powder to work with as well, it's just not as popular for heavier bullets.
I take it that it is 3,100 ft/s ,ya i dont need that i just want something thats a good target round and something for hunting.I have plenty of "go to war" rounds stored
