Does the M-4 barrel cut-out ever present a problem such as over heating at the cut-out due to the thinner barrel ? Any other known problems ?

What type of M203 device(s) can me mounted legally ?

Thanks

The barrel is only thing at the 203 cut out. I haven't seen or can foresee an overheating problem due to that ~1inch cut.

Technically it is illegal to mount a m203 on your rifle. It is considered a Destructive Device. IIRC same goes for a MasterKey. The only thing you can mount on there is a 37mm flare launcher. I personally have one attached to the bottom of my m4gery. It makes the rifle substantially heavier but I do like how it looks!

For the sake of argument, i believe you can mount air soft M203s if you really want that look. ** please don't do mount this or any other air soft parts on your " real steel" as the kids call it.

It's only illegal to mount an M203 or Masterkey if they are not properly registered. In which case the mere possession of them would be illegal.

If the M203 clamp cut is what is being asked about, the newest M4 barrel has deleted them. Heat resistance and less probability of failure were the reasons given. I think it goes back to the Colt videos of sustained full auto fire to destruction.

For the civilian shooter, the hand guards catching fire should be a clue.

The M4A1 barrel still has the M203 cutout, the section of barrel that is heavier is underneath the handguards.

I think it's pointless to have a cut out barrel. And having a flare cannon would only be cool to the point you say, 'it's a flare shooter' is about where the coolness ends.

And it you think about it. That part of the barrel is going to cool quicker then the rest of the barrel. Which could cause warping. But then again, not many of us are going to put 400-500 rounds through their rifle in one sitting without any cool time.

But the new ACR has it! We all know anything the new ACR has is the best.....

Hmmm point made.. But I don't know if they(rifle makers, barrel makers) had civilians in mind. That's where the moneys at, military and law enforcement. Which do use a m203.
