So I'm looking into spending a little tax return money on some upgrades and first on the list is a SOPMOD stock. Just a couple questions.
First, how do I tell the difference between commercial and milspec buffer tubes? I'm 99% sure I have a milspec buffer (Its a Spikes lower)
And question 2, if I do have a milspec buffer, I don't need to buy the complete SOPMOD kit right, just the stock only?
Thanks in advance.
If it is a Mil Spec tube all you need is the stock.

I also see the ACS from Magpul is very similar.
Opinions? Comparisons?
the SOPMOD only comes in milspec
the ACS is a little lighter, i think it's a little longer, less expensive, and you can access the tubes without removing the stock. the sopmod is all smooth one piece, so no chance of pulling face pubes.. i would bet money it's also significantly stronger, for what that's worth.

Whats the difference between a milspec buffer and a commercial buffer?
Pretty much the diameter of the threads and extension plus a slant at the rear of the comm. version. Attached pic displays it.

i'm gonna go with the SOPMOD, but i have another question.
i'm going to get the new version with the built in QD attachment point. does it come with a QD swivel? I've looked around for QD swivels alone without the accompanying female portion and can't seem to find any. Any help would be appreciated.
neg.. just the mount.
the swivel usually comes with the sling you buy, but i know i've seen just the swivels. i'll post if i come across one.
is this what you're looking for?

Best swivels I've seen. http://www.blueforcegear.com/product.cfm?type=cat&cat_id=5&prod_id=107
The TangoDown one that came with my PR-4 is very nice too, but I prefer a smaller slightly more difficult to engage QD button.
I would opt for the stock kit. LMT's RE is extremely well made and worth the extra money, and will likely give you a better fit for your new SOPMOD over the Spike's RE.
