I am looking for a GPS watch for my daughter. She is a runner and likes to vary her route and the nike step counter (or whatever the thing that attached to your shoe and transmitting to the wrist unit is called) is not working for her.

Suggestions please.

Thanks

I picked up a Garmin Forerunner 205 a couple of weeks ago. MSRP is $149.00, available for $125 in places. This is their entry level version. The 305/405 add features such as a heart rate monitor and the ability to use shoe pods as well. I already have a heart rate monitor and hate wearing the band around my chest.
The 205 has been very nice. Good information, easy to see. It will download into your computer and put that info on a map with additional information like how high the hills were, what your pace was at different points.

You can find Garmin 201's on eBay for a bit less, the antenna isn't as good as the newer 205 and its display seems to be a bit gangly...

All of the Garmin watches can be used to give you a route to run or guide you back home but they don't function like the car versions where you can see a map.

I recommend a Polar RS300X G1. Can be had for $150 (orange version, black is about $50 more) on Amazon.com and includes a heart rate monitor along with other training features. Best value I have been able to find.
