I have skated by using my Fox mt biking/mx gloves long enough to need a new pair and a new pair of shooting gloves now. I know the Oakley's and Vickers gloves are the norm, but are there any others out there that I should know about? Durability doesn't concern me as much as usefulness, but since they are a wear and tear item, I want to keep price into consideration.

Formerly known as the "Operator Shorty", for my needs, these are the best gloves I have ever used. Not as rugged as Vickers or Oakleys, but way more dexterity.

I use Mechanic gloves, before I found those I used Hatch gloves. I tried my friends Oakleys and they were okay imo.

I own several pair of "tactical" gloves now. From experience, nothing beats a good pair of baseball batting gloves for dexterity when it comes to shooting. They are thin enough to allow you to easily manipulate controls and still protect your hand. The tactical gloves are all too thick for me. With that said, they are still manageable if I had to use them.

i've beem using nike batting gloves for years.. the only way they could be improved upon would be if they had heat-resistant backing, instead of the melts-into-your-wound nylon.

Harbor Freight has a set of $10 Kevlar gloves that are hard to beat. I've lost three pairs of them over the last 10 years and STILL haven't worn a pair out.

Frankly, they rock. My last pair went to some Iraqi who never returned them.:(

Does anyone make Tac style gloves in X-Small or at least in "cadet" with shorter fingers? (The term "cadet" is pretty commonly used in sizing golf gloves.)

I have a pair of Hatch gloves in Small but the fingers are still a bit too roomy for me.

EDIT: It appears the Hatch NS430 gloves I have do come in X-Small. I guess I need to order a set since mine don't fit me.

I have to agree with Oscar, after using several different brand gloves the Shorty Operators are my favorites. There not the most durable but are the most dexterous IMHO. Wanted to like the Vickers but found them a little to thick and lacking in feel.

Ironclad Gloves rock.

These are the ones I have used extensively though I also have more expensive Hatch gloves that I prefer.

I use the cheap Mechanix gloves from Wal-Mart ($14.50). They're the thinest of the bunch and offer great dexterity.

I like the orignals and the old M-pact versions. I haven't tried the new impact version shown here yet:

These look interesting:

What's cool about the Mechanix gloves @ $25/pr you can have three or four pair when it's raining, and rotate into a dry set as needed. Whereas the Oakley's are $70/pr.

Yeah, I used to have 3 non-greasy pair of mechanix gloves, but I have lost 3 right gloves over the past year since I moved. I have recovered one, so I have a semi-decent pair. I was curious to see if there was a better bang for the buck, but it doesnt seem so, especially considering gloves are a wear and tear item.

The Oakley gloves have never fit me right. The fingers are too short in the size that fits my palm. But the next size up, the fingers fit but the palm is too big. So I use the Fox Racing Bomber glove. Very similar in construction to the Oakley with the hard knuckle guards. Great dexterity. I've ridden hard with mine for the last two years and have finally blown a seam. Great glove.

I tried a pair the other day and while they definitely offer better protection, they aren't as good for dexterity as the cheaper ones (the Fast Fit's that wake.joe posted are the ones I use). I wound up sticking with the Fast Fits.

That is brilliant. The Mechanix FastFit in medium fit me better than any pair of gloves I've ever tried. I Just found them on ebay for $10.99 and free shipping. :) Limit three pairs per customer.

Check out Camelbak Combat gloves. I love these gloves, they fit great and have Kevlar and Nomex protection. Camelbak also has a less expensive option called Impact CT. I've owned both and think they are both great.
