Could this be cut down to fit a middy? Any other 'budget' middy handguards/rails anyone would recommend?

Try Midwest Industries.

Yep, MI. Better quality rail system for the money.

Troy midlength drop-in battlerail (http://store.troyind.com/Drop_In_Mid_Length_Battlerail_p/srai-mrf-d9bt-00.htm).

If you buy a black one and put "20%off" in the coupon code portion during checkout, it costs $127.20. This is your best bet.

That is hard to beat with the coupon code.

I agree. That would be my choice.

I'll 3rd that. If you were in the market and shoppingwhy would you
pass up a Troy Battle Rail for under $128 and buy some UTG made in
china (most say air-soft parts) rail that has been said to be non mil spec.

I'd 100% go with the Troy and give justin_247 a HUGE thank you for sharing that code.

I did find out one interesting tidbit today.
Leapers/UTG bought CNC equipment and built a facility to manufacture their own rails. So ends the debate of who was making them in the U.S.
