Trying to decide between the two. It will be for patrol and swat duties. I will want to mount an aimpoint on it like I have now. I like the idea of the free float rail on the Colt and if I got the Noveske I would need to put one on it to mount QD sling swivel on the forend. I dont like the idea of paying $600 more for the Noveske with a rail. So what do you think? Which would you choose and why?

Two months ago I was trying to decide on a 6940 or an M&P15T. I went with the 6940 and I am glad that I did. I don't know much about the Noveske, but the Colt is a great Carbine and for $1390 I felt like I got a great deal here in Hawaii.

Remember with the Colt and those nice rails you won't have to modify to modify. Think save money.

I don't know what the Noveske has but, the M&P15T is a 1 in 9 barrel and I wanted a 1 in 7.

FYI the Colt is extremely accurate with the folding iron sights. Good luck.

If you go with the 6940 then you're stuck with that rail system. If you ever decide you want a different rail, longer one, etc. you'll have to get a whole new upper. You have more choices with a non-monolithic upper. You may want to check out Bravo Co USA/BCM if you haven't already. They have a lot of different high quality choices and seem to be reasonably priced.

Good point Colt. Might be better to get a 6920, and put a rail on it. Great deals out there on the DD 12.0FSP, which would be go very nice on a 6920. The Noveskes are pure awesomeness, and worth the money, if you don't mind spending it.

Both make fine products.

Figure out which best suits your needs and go from there.

My choice is Noveske (I now have 3 of there uppers).

I like mid gas systems (which Colt doesn't offer). More handguard or rail and a different recoil signature.

You're also stuck with Colts rail system vs. finding one that feels good to you (not all feel the same).

Noveske offers an LEO discount if you order direct from them (I saved $125 on my last order).

BCM also makes quality uppers.
Good luck.

6920 with DD RIS II FSP is a good option (http://i910.photobucket.com/albums/ac306/lindertw/6920_update.jpg), and the Noveske N4 light basic (http://m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=51936) is great rifle as well (be advised, if you're not SBR'ing the N4 you have to decide which rail to have installed before perm attaching the flash hider).

good luck with your decision!

I purchased the 6940 a few months ago and love it. If I had it to do over again, I would have gotten the 6920 with a 12" rail and a low pro gas block or something along those lines. I do feel limited in my options having only a 7" rail. You are doing the right thing by asking people on this forum. Good luck.

Well that is the problem I know they are both great products, dang I guess I have to decide which one I want FIRST :D

put the proper spin on it... get her to the range (and hooked on shooting), then you can get both

I would like to find one for $1390, been looking for a week and no luck here in NC. $1550 - $1650 is all I have seen, on the Net, I will keep looking though until I find one......
Good luck with your's!

Clyde Armory has 6940's for $1350. That's where I got mine. They're legit.

I'd get the Noveske because of the barrel, but you can't go wrong with either one.

I have both, both are awesome. Get the Colt first. It has the rail, that your "stuck with". I like being stuck with a monolithic rail. Many guys here like to tinker, and have the skills to do it. You also get the flip down sight, and you get a Colt. Its a little heavier, which is a Pro Con situation. Keeps you on target. I shot mine today and really liked the balance & weight.

Like said before" "Both guns are awesome".

I have a couple 6920's, 1 6940 and a few Noveske based builds. The Colt 6940 is a very good rifle and all of them that I have fired have had exceptional accuracy out of the box including mine. There is a thread around here about the 6940 vs 6920 and I won't rehash it, but my opinions are in there with many other members who own these rifles. I will just say that if I had to chose between the 6920 and 6940, I would keep the 6920's. I like to tinker and need more rail length for my shooting style.

As for the Noveske, they are top top notch. Their barrels, especially the SS barrels are my favorite, however you will pay for quality, which is OK with me. As mentioned you will get 10% off for LE pricing.

Just for the rifles mentioned so far, I would get the 6920 which can be purchased for around $1100 or so especially for LE and get a Daniel Defense 12" Omega X rail, grip and stock for around the same price of the 6940 and you still have more options.

Everyone has different tastes and needs however. But for a duty rifle it is hard to go wrong with the 6920 with options. Of course there are other solid performers at a good price point, but I am only covering what has been mentioned.

Go with the Noveske.

If you screw up the rail on a 6940, you have to replace the whole damn upper.

On the Noveske you just have to replace the rail system.

Bought a 6940 as my first AR and couldnt be happier. Its as solid as solid gets, shoots ridiculously accurate and I didnt have tinker with anything.

If you want to take your rifle apart and modify it.. the 6920 or other options are better. If you arent a tinker.. want a rifle that is 100% Colt with a rail.. and will hold its value forever.. then the 6940 is your answer.

I don't know much about the colt rifles, but their handguns are top of the line. I went with a Noveske N4 basic upper, gentelmen I bought it from had bought it either with MOE handguards already install. So all I have to do is add some rail attachments.

I paid $800 for the complete Noveske upper and $300 for the complete RRA lower. Iv got a thread open with pictures if you like to take a look. All the gun needed was a back sight, not bad for a $1100+back sight.

I recently bought a Noveske N4 midlength and my work buddy bought the 6940. Both are excellent rifles but for me its Noveske all the way. Its been 100 percent reliable even with some really cheap crap ammo I bought at Cabelas. Hunting Cartridges??

Im really considering taking my ACOG off of my duty Bushmaster and putting it on my Noveske to see how well she does with good ammo.

Noveske also gives out a military and police discount. My midlength was right at 1400 overnighted to me... I couldnt wait:p

Pics of my baby. Sorry the pics kinda suck.
