Which model were you looking for. I ordered mine two weeks ago, received it one week ago and the same model I bought is still in stock. 16" middy LW with DD lite rail 12.0. Hope you ordered yours, I love mine.

The basic. No rails, just hand guards. I've been waiting for these to come in stock for a bit. I'm cash poor currently and my crazy credit card ninja skilz are nagging at me to pull the trigger on snagging this upper...

Just out of curiosity, whats the total weight of the upper you bought?

Now all they need to produce is a 14.5 light weight middy, that will be my next purchase whenever they make one, if they make one.

standard 16" middy upper weighs 3lbs even, LW weighs 2lbs 11.2oz

So what configuration changes do they make to take off the 5 oz or so off the regular midy to get the lightweight middy?

Look at the profiles side by side.

OK, so I am new to AR's and the forum, but is the only change a 'pencil' barrel? That's all my untrained eye can see.

it is a "pencil" barrel that retains the .750" FSB section to allow for more flexibility in block options.

barrel is milled off forward of the front sight, right behind the front sight some material was taken off. While it is only 5 oz, its 5oz that was at the end of the barrel, shifting the center of balance of the upper much more towards the user. So it feels a lot less heavier

Here's hoping more BCM uppers come back in stock, or else I'm going to have to start exploring the fun world of putting uppers together.

Could the slimmed front barrel introduce heating/accuracy issues after repeated firing?

ForTehNguyen

on a semi automatic, doubt it. It took a while to burn out a govt profile on repeated automatic fire

Weren't the M16A1 barrels pencil profile? Those seemed to hold up pretty well.

So what profile would this barrel be categorized as? Thanks for all the insight. I'm a backpacker, so carried weight is ALWAYS a consideration in my mind (dammit).

It is considered a lightweight profile barrel, the area under the handguards is not .gov profile like with the standard mid-length barrel. If you are out to get a lighter barrel, you may want to look at the Daniel Defense hammer forged lightweight barrels that use a .625" diameter gas block section. G&R Tactical has them in stock and it looks as though BC will carry them soon.
