I've been thinking picking up a full-sized 9 mm Glock. I have a G-19 which I shoot OK. I've recently rented 17 and 34 and was really surprised how easy it was shoot 34. The 17 was a bit more controllable than 19, but 34 barely got off the target. Looking at dimensions, there is a pretty noticeable increase from 19 to 17 (both grip and barrel lengths), but from 17 to 34 it didn't look dramatic (just 0.5 inch of bbl). So, the questions is: for those who conceal-carry 17, why not 34?

I carry a 35 and I have no problems carrying it concealed...

You can conceal a holstered Uzi if you wear enough cover clothing to hide it but question is, why would you want to? What exactly would a G17 or a G34 give you that your G19 doesn't? I carry a P2000SK with flat floorplates. I can drop it in the pockets of a pair of shorts if I need to on a hot day. Try that with a G34 when it is 110 degrees outside.

it seems a lot of guys who find the G19 grip too constricting find the finger groove spacing of the G26 still acceptable. yes, your pinky will be floating in the breeze, but the rest of your hand will think it's grabbing a G17.

No, this is non-issue - I have had finger grooves removed.

Performance, I think. I didn't have a chance to run timed drills, but the way 34 stayed on target, I'd imagine it would be appreciably faster. It also could be easier to shoot at longer ranges due to longer sight radius.

I am not arguing concealability of subcompact/compact pistols vs. full-sized ones. There will be times when G-17 or 34 would be a poor choice, and 19 would be better option. And then there will be times where compact would not be an absolute necessity. My question was specific to 17 vs 34.

Used used to carry a G17. Is was ok in the winter.

I now carry a G19...... Which is the perfect size.

I attempted to carry my G35 once or twice....... It felt like I had a tail coming out of my right butt cheek.

Do/did you carry that 35 IWB or OWB?

IWB in a crappy Galco Summer Comfort around my 4 o'clock.

I would suggest you go with the G34 anyway since you already have a G19.

Thanks. I think I'd probably do with OWB - if I ever went with 34 - but I am curious to hear other opinions. The way I see it - and I am talking length only here - the 17 should be equivalent to a Commander-length 1911, while 34 - to Government length, and there are plenty of people who carry both iterations of 1911...

I used to carry my full size 1911 as well. That was ok, better than the G35. I think the thickness of the gun may have come into play with that. I can't explain it but I didn't feel "right" when I carried the G35, even compared to a 1911.

Others result may vary though, it's just my experience with the guns in question.

Have tried it. Found the 34 too long as it poked hard into seats or I felt like I was sitting on the muzzle. Didn't see enough advantage vs the 17 to deal with it.

Let's put things into perspective-a G34 is about the same profile size as a 5" 1911 Government; a G17 as a 4.25" 1911 Commander. It's just not that big of a deal to carry either concealed.

While I'm much more likely to carry my G17 or G19, I also carry my G34 concealed in a Blade-Tech Nano IWB holster.

Best, Jon
