My daughter needs a general purpose flashlight for everyday use and complains that the 6P class light I sent her is "too bright". She keeps that light next to her Smith & Wesson. Smart kid. However, she still need another general purpose light for finding her cat, etc. What say you?
Thanks...
Gary

Check these out: http://www.4sevens.com/index.php?cPath=297_306

I just purchased the 123 model which gets great reviews and approval from everything I've seen & read. You might get her the AA version which isn't as bright and the batteries tend to be a little bit cheaper. Good company with a good reputation.

My wife and daughters carry Novatac 85T's...85, 10, & .3 lumens. Since these things sit in their purses, I liked the shelf-life of the CR123A batteries and they're pretty cheap online. The ui is easy to use, too.

While the Surefire LX2 and E1B are good lights you can purchase 3 of the Quark Tacticals or Novatacs for the same price. Personally I don't think the Surefire is 3X the light for the price and opting for the other route would guarantee you a backup in case of failure. 1 for her purse, 1 for her car and 1 for her house for the same price as 1 SF.

Again, this thread has some good info in it: https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=49550

A Maglight with the led bulb from walmart may be the more economical choice. The D cell ones are bright, but not overly so. It may be a little large for her though.

I agree that the Quarks are a great light for the price, and well suited to general everyday use. They are also much lighter and smaller than comparable SF 6P/G2 size lights. You can get the tactical version and have two levels, or get the regular version and get multiple levels.

CR123 is also a great idea for shelf life, especially if she has a battery supply already for her bedside tac light.

First I will say that I do NOT have any run time on the Quark or Novatac lights, so I can not comment on the quality, durability, or the company its self.

They both may very well be great lights but i'll comment on why I went with the LX2.

First, its a surEfire. Being very hard on my gear and using it on duty, during my classes along with classes I take, Im very hard on my gear and it breaks. Surefire has taken care of me 100 percent. Just last week I broke the lens on my x300 and they replaced it no questions ask and had it back to me within a week.

As far as the Flashlight itself...Being the light was "kept next to her S&W" I would assume that it was being used as a defensive tool. Personally, I only dedicate things that i have used, abused and can trust. And thats surefire all the way. (not saying any other company is not as good, just what ive found.)

Function of the light. Personally I dont like click on/off tail caps or more than 2 light settings for a defensive light. Some of the lights I have seen with lots of different settings are sometimes hard to get to the setting you may need in a defensive encounter.

The 15 lumen/200 lumen is about perfect for me and the use with a pistol. It offers the abiliy to use the low setting for everyday needs without draining the battery But yet offers a high output for defesive needs.

The LX2 offers a good throw and spill indoors that doesnt splash off everything in the house, and also offers decent throw outdoors for longer engagments.

The only thing bad I've found is 4 days after I bought it I broke the pocket clip jamming a radio in my pocket at work. called SF and they sent me out a new one no questions asked.

all that being said, there may be a better choice out there for your needs. For me the LX2 works good for me.

I'm not sure if I'm understanding your question correctly about "3 mode drop-in" but I'll give it a shot. The Quark and Novatac, along with several others, are programmable lights so she'll be able to set her own level of brightness that she desires.

You can set the brightness level for different "clicks" of the button and different positions of the rotating bezel. Some typical settings are High, Medium, Low, Strobe and Beacon and they can be accessed and utilized through different programming of the light. I am far from a light expert but have done a bit of research and in my opinion the Quark Tactical 123offers a big bang for the buck in a small package.

Have you checked out the Streamlight Microstream? Not a bad light for under 20 bucks.

I carry this in my pocket daily. It is pretty low power and TINY.

I also suggest looking at the Fenix lights. I have one of them also and carry it occasionally. Many of their lights have variable power levels. This is a very nice feature. The trade off is they don't have momentary on/off. The on/off switch is tapped to change the power level rather than momentary on/off.
