All I want is the best of both worlds!! I want to have a scope that will let me do some shootin’ for groups between 100-300 yds. But that would also be a good scope for close in, maybe doing 3-gun stuff. A do-everything scope. As if that were not a tall enough order, I’m finicky about a scope that has very little eye relief shift between variable magnifications. I’d like to keep the scope cost under $500 (sorry, no Nightforce, S&B, or Swarovski for me). I’ve been told by a few that the best for what I’m looking for would be an Accupoint TR24 1-4x w/ a German #4. They say that the dot is small enough for semi-precise work, but helpful for quick work close in. Pricey, but I may have to save if that’s best for my wants.

You need to clear the moths out of your wallet, fella.

None of the above, IMO. On paper only, since they are not yet available - and also based on favorable shot show reviews - the Vortex PST 1-4.

you considered the trijicon TA33? with the green horseshoe? A lot of folks say it is great for three gun as well as regular work. They say the horseshoe is the size of a standard plate. I just got mine and like it so far.

I'm not saying that these are the places where I'd buy the scope, but all of the optics are on the market and currently available:

I checked out a Trijicon Accupoint TR21 today. It has longer eye relief than the TR24, it's also not a 30mm tube, and it's 1.25-4 (as opposed to 1 to 4). I wasn't all that impressed with the quality of the glass. It's OK, but kinda fuzzy on the edges. Is the TR24 better? I haven't had a chance to take a peak through a TR24.

I also took a look through a Bushnell 4200 4-16 (not the 1.25-4 that I'm considering). I think the Bushnell 4200 has better clearer glass than the Trijicon TR21.

FWIW you might want to decide if up close work or 200+ yards is more important to you. I have a TR24 with the German reticle. Unless you're in bright sunlight, the illuminated dot isn't that easy to pick up. That being said, it does have thick crosshairs to help you pick up the target. If up close is more important, you'll probably want the triangle reticle. If you want precision shots further than 200 yards, go with the German. You might want to check out the new ShortDot that's supposed to come out soon. I believe it'll have a large dot when not magnified and switch to crosshairs when it is dialed up. I'm happy with my scope and the illumination would help when hunting at dusk. I wouldn't count on it for quick work though. Perhaps someone with more experience will weigh in and provide more tips/thoughts.
