I finally got tired of the Armory Kote finish on the slide. Holster wear meant it looked kinda beat up and scarred. Decided to learn to do my own after having one of my ARs done in cerakote.

I learned a lot about the XD platform. It disassembles really easily. I watched a video on youtube of a .45 XD fully taken down about 4x before I decided to embark on the disassembly/paint/reassembly.

When I got it taken down I took the slide to a shop with a sandblaster. I had to remove ALL of the armorykote from the slide. The metal looked really cool. Would've left it that way had it not needed protection from rust.

Brought it back to the house---degreased it. Baked it for 30mins at 250degF and took it outside. Mixed my 24:1 cerakote sniper grey and poured it into the HVLP gun. Note---make sure your cup doesn't have a hole in it.....poured out all over my shoes and got some on the new concrete patio. Working on solving that issue right now.....

Got a new gun! HVLP that is....

Mix 24:1 again....

Voila!!---sprayed and prayed actually.

Back in the oven.....for 2 hours this time

When that was done I took it out and down to the shop for reassembly. Was easier to assemble than I thought. The cocked firing pin indicator was about as tough as I expected it to be. I needed 4 hands. Had a 220rd function test the next day and had zero failures of any kind. I figured out that 220rds in 1hr is enough to make the trigger decently warm. It functioned perfectly with WWB, WWB JHPs, Speer GDHPs, and Federal Hydrashok JHPs. Good.

It started as this:

Take it from a painter, it wont come out...:D The slide looks good too but you should take the round out of the chamber when taking pictures of the muzzle end.... :)
