I posted here since we don't have a shotgun forum.
This is my Benelli M1. I use it for the 'training' and 'Tactical' division in 3 gun competition. I got in on a trade 2yrs ago and have since put the rifle style stock on it (easier to reload on the clock) and traded the factory posted rifle sighted barrel for the ghost ring non ported barrel. I had my gunsmith install the MMC rear ghost ring sight.

GG&G on the bolt (I think), don't know on the pad. Both were already on the gun when I traded for it.

The pad does look slightly different then the GG&G. I need to get one of those for my M1. Thanks!

Heres my Benelli M1 S90. I plan on mounting the Mesa Tactical shell holder with the integrated picatinny rail, and mounting a Pride/Fowler sight in a LaRue mount on it in the near future.

My 870 Police.
20" factory rifle sighted improved cylinder barrel, Remington 3 shot extension, Davis speed feed stock and a side saddle. Wislon front sling swivel and oversize safety.
Factory parked finish, and I put the skateboard tape on because the grip on the Davis stock is a little slick.

I have no camera, so it's an old pic of how it looked pre make over. Now it looks just as beat up, but has a few new features. To me, it's a natural 870. Beaten to hell, worn, and 100% reliable. :D
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c278/olds442tyguy/baaf3346.jpg
BTW, this is my only shotgun, and I will only have one other which is a 14" 870PM coming up in the near future. I love my 870 and I think it's fun, but scatterguns are nothing more than a novelty to me.
Great pics guys. I need to get my camera up and rolling again. I have some nice scatterguns. I got a form 1 signed so its SBS time pretty soon. Not sure if I want to shorten a Benelli or a 870.
Jeff you don't happen to have a pic of your shorty with a standard stock do you? That gun looks badass. What kind of rear sight is that?
http://www.coloradoshooting.org/70%20benelli%202.jpg
Boom,
Standard Benelli sights. Purchased it back in 97 - 98 timeframe.
I don't have a pic of a standard stock on that gun. In fact I've been looking for a decent priced standard stock for the 18.5" Benelli.

How many rds does the shorty hold in the tube? I'm really thinking of buying one and having it cut down. I assume that is the Entry model they sell?

The 14" is not a factory Entry model, this is my personal gun (I don't have any Department issued guns, all the guns that I post pics of are my personally owned firearms). They only sell the Entry model to Govt agencies.
The 14" started off as a 18.5" Benelli, I purchased a 14" factory Benelli barrel from R Guns or something like that (back in 98). After the BATF paperwork was approved, all I had to do was swap out the barrel.
The 14" holds 5 in the tube, 1 on the carrier, and 1 in the chamber (7 total).
The newer model benelli's don't hold a shell on the carrier like the older models do, but there is a modification that can be done to the newer benelli's to allow the extra round on the carrier.
As it stands now, the 18.5" only holds one more shell than the 14" (due to the shell on the carrier). I plan on getting the mod done to the 18.5", just haven't gotten around to it yet.
Take care and stay safe,
Jeff

Jeff thx for your reply I missed it some how. I have been thinking about picking up a Beneilli and doing the same. I have the paper work ready to go but need to find the gun first. I've seen a couple locally but they run about 1K. Been hoping to find something a little cheaper.
Is there a big difference in recoil between the two guns? From the sounds of it you like the shorty more then the standard barreled gun.
Boom,
No difference in recoil between the 2 guns. The custom Pachmyrer Decelerator pad on the 14" makes some difference.....but other than that, no noticeable difference.

Excellent thank you. Now to find the gun and get the serial number so I can send in my paper work. Do you think having a gunsmith cut the barrel down after I get my stamp back would be a good idea or could I just order the short barrel from Beneilli after my stamp comes back?

Jeff,
Please let us know more specifics on the carrier mod. Is it a Do-it-yourself job, or does it need to be done by a smith? Any info on this is greatly appreciated.

Nick,
When I get around to it, I'll have my local smith do mine. I know that some meat has to be cut off the bolt, I don't know exactly what exactly it entails, I remember seeing pics from a "how to" thread and it didn't seem like too big of a job if you are handy with the right tools. There are some guys do it by themselves, I'm not one of those guys. :D

Yeah, it's probably the most expensive shotgun sling you can find, but I think I'm gonna like it. I'm going to hard-mount the rear point, but for the interim this works... An added bonus to the HK orientation in the back is that it's a natural for compressed CQB stance.
The rundown:
Rem 870 Express 12ga - pre-locking safety/plastic trigger guard (~20yrs old)
18" IC tube w/trijicon front blade
Vang oversized safety button
Wilson/Scattergun Tech 2rd extension w/side loop
Youth LOP synth stock
Eventually I'll get a Mesa side saddle, still debating the rear sight option. I have an in-the-white Rem barrel mount RS ramp/blade that I haven't mounted up.

The only pic i have of her, HK FP6 (W/Carbon Fiber finish). I picked her up about 5 years ago because i needed a guage that wouldnt rust and could be stored for months at a time without rusting like 870's are prone to.
Kind of limited on the cool guy after market parts with this version but it is light/points well and patterns excellent with all loads i have tried. Currently protecting my Parents house which means im never getting it back from Dad.
Oh well, guess i will have to treat myself to a Vang Comp 870 when i get home.:D

A little divorce present to myself. Spent last winter in my Bud's shop working on this. POS pawn shop 870 cut down to 8". Three in the tube one in the hole. Still kills birds and hits like a mutha ****a. She now wears a CTR, Surefire Scout light and a Mesa Tac side saddle.

Everything I own must be evilized to the maximum extent of the law. Here are mine (so far)

My project Rem 870HD. KAC 870 RAS w/ high rise tritium front, GG&G MAD rear BUIS so it's ghost ringy. Tried a Wilson mag follower, threw it away, but the jumbo head is nice. Open to optics...was considering the new Aimpoint compact but I don't know ETA or estimated street prices.
Surefire FA618 6V w/ KL5 100 lumen LED head soon from Grant at GR Tactical. Mesa Tactical adaptor and adaptor-mounted side saddle (with DIY spacer to clear KAC) and a Magpul MIAD to come. Awaiting Magpul UBR to complete my build. I hope like heck it comes out by April. Also trying to get a Remington Military 870MCS front tube clamp/rail, much better than the flimsy stock unit...no luck so far. :(
Side note, aftermarket safeties drop right into the j-lock equipped Remington safeties...nothing different about it. :D

Some real beauties in here. Travis...love that 500...and the Saiga too but damn that 500 is hot!
BTW here's my newest project...
This has no real meaning to me. It was given to my dad long ago and he gave it to me. He's given me other things also that have more meaning and he's not much into guns (he shoots but it's not really a hobby). Therefore here is a 870 Wingmaster 2.75" w/ a 30" barrel born May of 1952. In great condition really but I'm gonna keep all the furniture and barrel and go w/ an 18" HD barrel...smooth bore, bead sight. Also I'm gonna eventually swap out the furniture. I've got some Alumahyde II in which is going on soon. I've got other shotguns but this one is begging to be a bad ass old timer.
This pic truly shows just how long this barrel is...oh did I mention it's too tall to fit in my safe....I have to take the damn barrel off everytime I put it away!

Rob,
Bob just handled the transfer on this one. And of course, he did the original trust.
This one came from another C3/SOT in GA. If you want info let me know and I'll post it here if that's OK or you can IM/email.

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-11/889657/S12_Tactical.JPG
It's a Saiga S12. I added the fixed stock and SAW-style pistol grip. I put a Picatinny rail on the front with the UTG vertical foregrip. That's a 10-rd AGP magazine. It also has the UTG low-rise scope mount attached -- although that probably won't stay. (And yes, it's fully 922R compliant for those who wonder about such things!)
Next will be some Kreb's Custom sights ghost ring sights, a sling and a Limbsaver!
3-gun, here I come!!

Here's mine:
Remington 870 3" Magnum Express with upgraded Police Magnum trigger group, Vang 2 shot Mag. Extension, Remington Youth Stock with "Limb Saver" recoil pad (this is the "Cat's Ass!), SF Forend, DD single point Sling Mount, Vang SS Mag follower, Vang Safety, 4 round Side Saddle (would like to try the Mesa tactical model, but not really a priority), 18" IC barrel, and I also have a 28" vent rib barrel with choke tubes for hunting as needed. A very veratile kit.
I use to have a Vang Comp system on another 870, but since finding the Federal LE00127 Flite Control loads, my patterns are just as tight, and the "Limb Saver" recoil pad make recoil fairly unoticeable.

Very nice! I'll try to get a better picture of mine sometime. That was taken on one of those overcast, gray winter days and the light sucked. I have no idea what the year is on mine, but it looks very similar to yours. Mine has no proof marks, though. It has no PD markings either, but I believe it was part of a batch of police department trade-ins.
And thanks, Templar. The "old school cool" factor is part of what appealed to me. I think the M37 is one of those forgotten American classics...
Derek
Thanks Tiger. I would like to see more pictures of it, it appears to be a very nice example.
Not all the Military 37s had the standard Govt. markings, I learned this tidbit from the old Ithaca historian. Apparently, they needed weapons badly and were buying about anything they could get, field grade etc. Does your barrel have the relief notches for the heat-shield?
http://mysite.verizon.net/od45/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/m-37barrel.jpg
If you wish, you can PM me your serial number and I might be able to tell you the year of manufacture.
tiger seven
12-17-07, 10:09
No, mine doesn't have those notches. I guess it makes sense that there would be some military guns without proof marks considering the circumstances.
I bought mine at a local place that is a large law enforcement distributor, and it was one of about twenty-five Ithacas they got in all at once. I didn't ask for details, but that's why I think it was PD trade-in. All of them were in the basic riot gun configuration, but most of the guns were blued and had the engraved receivers (it has ducks on, I think  ) and there were only two that were parked and had plain receivers. I bought the better of the two.
I'm curious to know the year of manufacture. I'll try to remember to check the serial number when I get home. Thanks.
Derek

here is 3 of my 11 shotguns but these are my favorites. The SPAS has had the recoil buffer changed out and is a blast to shoot...its never had an issue. The 870 currently has paperwork in with BATF to be SBS'd, so just waiting on that and the Benelli M4 is the baddest shotgun on the block, PERIOD!

A couple of Belgium Superposes.....Not very tactical....perhaps some spray paint and a couple of flashlights hanging from the barrels might help.

Dr Drake,
Nice Blaster and totally Bitchen. T-1 would be a nice accoutrement no doubt.
I just want to make a respectful and IMO insightful suggestion.
It has been demonstrated to me NUMEROUS times to have my SHOT upside down in the carrier.
When the SHTF you don't know the threat(s), terrain etc you will find the rounds all fall out whe placed the way yours are. Sometimes it's the recoil, sometimes it's the vibration, sometimes when running it JARS them lose etc..
If you have a preferance I can respect that and your choice. Just wanted to put it out there for your consideration. Sometimes the obvious is not so obvious.

No sweat, I respect your insight.
I had the internal debate with which direction to put them. Inserting them on the bottom side speeds up reloads considerably.
I've put close to 900 rounds total through the rifle. I had issues with the shells staying in place with my old side saddle in the first 100 rounds. I tried the Mesa side saddle around a year ago and have punched hundreds of rounds trying to get the shells to wiggle loose and it just has not happened. They are very secured hence their final location. If they ever start to loosen I'll do something different. Until then, I'm pretty pleased with the Mesa side saddle.
Anyone how knows me knows I rat **** my gear until it is down to a T. By rat **** I mean analyze.

New to me 870 Magnum.
A friend of mine gave me the receiver, trigger group, slide and bolt. I added a Speedfeed fore-end my boss gave me about a year ago. A co-worker gave me a nearly new 18" park'd chrome lined bbl. All I bought was the Choate stock and Wilson Combat/Scattergun 2 shot extension. So I'm $100 into this gun. I bought a flexi-tab carrier but haven't installed it yet. I'll probably refinish it in Norrells black or OD.

I have been advised the opposite, depending on ammo type.
Slugs are brass up, 00 is brass down. Its was taught as an aid during select slug drills to differentiate the ammo by feel instead of sight in low light environments.

Yes, that is in theory a good reason.
However I will SHARE my experience and findings regarding the PRACTICAL application of your aforementioned technique.
When your in Combat/Firefight/Gunfight/Patroling you typically cannot control the terrain, venue etc.
It happens as it happens wherever...
As you move, shoot, rack/manipulate the slide action on Pumps, recoil, navigate terrain, obstacles etc. the VIBRATION, Recoil Impact etc will JAR whatever rounds you have stacked BRASS DOWN loose. They dislodge and fall out while your engaging threats, traversing, moving, looking for cover/concealment etc..
When you need to reload, select diiferent ammo etc you will find the rounds are not there. This is due to the Brass has a LARGER diameter and when the Plastic Carrier experiences vibraction, impact, shock etc. the rounds fall down and out of your control.
The MOLDED PLASTIC/NYLON/NYLOTRON Carrier prongs releases it's grip on the Brass and GRAVITY wins every time....
When stacked Brass UP you reticify this problem.
It has been demonstarted to me a number of times from various Instructors, schools, training venues etc. I was skeptical as well.
When LAPD SWAT reviewed their videos tapes of deployments they realized why this was happening. The Operator could not figure out where they LOST rounds or why they knew they shot only 5 rounds but 6 were missing...?
So as part of their TT&P's/policy they stack brass UP now.
Some people mark the rounds tip of paint, marker so they differentiate the different types of rounds (i.e. "00" vs. Sabots vs. # 4 etc.)
If your training/shooting STATICALLY you will not experience this.
So, my intention was to share this insight because MOST people fight as they train. IMO, the reality is that if you ever have to move from static postion you will be left w/ the "Deer in the Headlights" look as to what happened to my rounds in my Carrier etc...
Those rounds may be the defining difference to save yours or others lives when in HARMS WAY.
Just a suggestion YMMV

Here are a few updates to old guns and a few newly acquired ones. Number 3 and 4 were picked up at the local Ganders for $180 and $149 each before my modifications. Number 3 for all practical purposes is brand new and I have no idea why it was priced so low and I didn't ask. Number 4 had a very, very bad Krylon job on it and looked like an absolute beater despite being in excellent condition mechanically. Both are configured for HD use by other family members.
From top to bottom:
1. Benelli M4: OD green and Matte Black Duracoat finish, Dave's metal works one piece magazine tube, Vang Comp follower, spring and Vang Comp breaching stand off device, Vicker's CAG sling.
2. Remington 870 Tactical Magnum: Mesa tactical LEO adapter with Eindine recoil tube and butt stock pad, Mesa 6 shell side saddle, Vang Comp oversized safety, Vang Comp VCS 18" barrel (lengthened forcing cone, back bored and ports) , Vang Comp breaching standoff device and magazine extension, Vang Comp follower and spring.
3. Remington 870 Express Magnum: Youth stock(came with gun), Vang Comp oversized safety, 18" imp cyl police barrel,Houge forend, HiViz MPB sight, Mesa tactical 6 shell side saddle.
4. Remington 870 Express Magnum: OD Green and HK Black Duracoat finish, Vang Comp oversized safety, 18" imp cyl police barrel,HiViz MPB sight.

I've got a Benelli M3 Super 90...I'll post pics later...but does anyone know if they make a M4-style stock for the Benelli
HOPLOETHOS,
Where did you get that Picatinny rail? Was that installed by Vang Comp? It looks like GG&G markings, but I can't find anything like that on their website.
I'm interested in putting something similar on an 870 of mine that already has a similar rear ghost ring setup.
Thanks.

dbrowne1,
Yes it is a GG&G Picatinny. It was a custom they did for me several years ago.
It is FLAWLESS and beware of some bad raps they take from disingenous and erronet POT STIRRERS.
Brandt or Mark will hook up.
Show them the pic or email it to them and they will do it right. ZERO problems w/ coming lose or less then PERCISION etc...
It was well worth the hundred or so dollars to have it made and installed etc.
Robbie Barkman or Badger Ordinance can do it as well as etc...
W/ A T-1 and Sabots/slugs you own it.......
Just for POOPS and GIGGLES I put on a Aimpoint 3X in the rear if PIC and T-1 in front of pic and had a 3X Slug Gun that was Death Ray...
It ROCKS and is the heat....
HOPLOETHOS,
Thanks for the reply. I have a few items from GG&G and have never had any issues with them, errornet babble is what it is.

My new 3gun blaster. I sold my Benelli M1 for $695 and bought this one for $680 brand new from Tanners on Gunbroker.
It's a 22" FN SLP Mk1. I use Briley chokes (Improved Cylinder & Light Modified), I plan to get a Skeet as well. I did a little WECSOG work to the loading port and shortened up the handguard so that I'm sure to get the shells all the way to the shell stop when reloading. It comes with 2 gas pistons a light and a heavy. Light is for 1.5oz or lighter and heavy is for 1.5oz or heavier. The light one works great with the cheap Wally World Federal bulk pack low brass 7-1/2s, I have about 400 rounds through it now with no malfunctions whatsoever. I'm using a 3gun gear side saddle and 2-shot form handguard saddle. This is probably the softest shooting 12gauge I've ever shot. With Federal Truball reduced recoil slugs it feels like you're shooting a 7.62x39mm AK if using the Light piston.
I've acquired a Browning Gold Sporting Clays piston which is made for 1-1/8oz or lighter I also got the Browning Gold 3.5" 12ga recoil spring. Supposedly these two work best together. I changed out the spring but it looked just like the one that I removed from my FN. I also now have a +1 mag extension from Nordic Components for those 'outlaw' 3gun matches I sometimes shoot where mag capacity isn't restricted.

I like gotM4's FN semi, and wanted to get the similar Winchester shotgun a few years back.
Instead I got a SureCycle extended mag tube for my Beretta Xtrema2. While I haven't used it for 3-gun or on duty, I have at times stoked it all the way up with 3.5-in WW Supreme 4 Buck (eight rounds with one in the tube, IIRC) for a fixed position home defense gun! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v704/elrata/SmallSocialXtrema2.jpg
And yes, it does raise eyebrows in the dove fields and turkey woods! I have an extry long hardwood dowel mag plug to stay legal if the TWRA guys get froggy during a migratory bird season.
This would be an awesome SD shotgun if Beretta offered it in 18-in. (or 14-in.!) trim
Mossberg 500A with factory GRS wood butt stok is a take off from my other 500A.

Mossy 500 Persuader.
Came w/ just a pistol grip. One trip to the range convinced me to put a stock on it :D
Added an M4 style stock and a light.

I like it! Lose the side saddle! That gun is too sexy to hide.
