I picked up some SMP primers since it was all that was available. Does anyone have any experience in substituting SMP primers for standard pistol primers in 9mm? What are the potential problems and cautions?

The powder Im using is HP-38.

Just use the starting load in the manual and build up from there and you will be fine.

I've used small rifle magnum primers straight across.... I guess it depends how hot your load is and what you're shooting it in.

f I may ask, what are your recipes looking like with SMP primers? Im thinking of starting off with:

Mixed brass
124gr RN
3.9gr of HP-38
Remington SMP primer
1.125" OAL

I use the same load for every primer. 4.3 grains of hp-38 is what it takes to get my glock to run reliably with 124 grain bullets. For whatever reason the 9mm glocks that I've had have only run well on near max/max loads. They just seem to be in tune with hotter ammo.
