Larue Three gun match 2010 range report.

Stage 1. 96th place (out of 205)
Stage 2. 115th place
Stage 3 78th place. (long range stage)
Stage 4 130th place (weak handed rifle shooting to 250 yards) I sucked kept losing my eye relief when shooting weak sided.
Stage 5. 176th place (found out that I should have checked my shotgun slug zero after the flight this plagued me for the rest of the match. My slugs were off 10 inches high. I timed out because I took too long with the shotgun and did not finish with the rifle.)
Stage 6. 127th This was the shooting from the back of the truck stage. .

Stage 7 did not count.
Stage 8. 127th Place Shooting from the back of a truck. (what a blast)
Stage 7 37th place out of the 119 that were scored on shooting it. About 70% of the shooters were unable to finish this stage. I got done with just 3 seconds to spare. If this stage were included I believe I would have moved up to around the middle of the pack. This would have given me 87 stage points. This stage was a blast. It was a jungle run. You started with your shotgun on a Texas star and engaged several shotgun targets at the top of the hill. You were moving while shooting a lot during this stage to save time. You dumped the shotgun in a barrel and then continued in the woods with your pistol shooting various poppers and paper targets until you reached you dumped your pistol at which point you pull your slung rifle and continue through the woods until you make it to the top of another little hill and engaged three close range rifle targets behind hostage targets. Then you had to engage 7 or so steel targets at 100 yards. I went prone. I finished the last metal target with just 3 seconds to spare. I was just glad to have finished because most who ran this course timed out.

My overall finish was 131 out of 205. I expected better and was humbled. I did well on stages where I could either shoot off hand or while moving or prone vs. stages where I had to kneel and shoot from awkward positions. My

I made several rookie mistakes, for example on the long range stage my plan was to start with my scope on 1x for the close targets on the move (15 yards) then move it to 3 x for the 100 to 300 yard targets then move it up to 6x for the 375 and 440 yard target so I could use bottom post to aim with. Well I forgot to crank it up to 6 and I missed several times at 375. I moved on and then hit the 440 on the second try and moved back and finally hit the one at 375.

I need to get in better shape and practice shooting from awkward and off balance shooting positions more. Stage 2 had me sucking wind with all the getting up and going down from the barrels while shooting both right and left handed. I did not finish this stage I left one target. I was pretty spent at the end of it. Being over weight did not help nor did the 92 degree temperatures with 90% humidity.

I need to practice a lot more weak hand rifle shooting at longer range. I practiced 100 yard weak hand before the match from a barricade. I did not practice shooting to 250 yards weak hand from prone. Nor did I shoot much un supported weak hand.

I learned a lot at this match and plan to go again. I also plan to attend other national three gun matches.

Conclusion.

I was humbled (thought I was better than I finished) but I learned a lot and won’t let my performance discourage me. I plan to work on my weakness and do better next year. The prize table was great. I won a Larue SPE 30mm mount worth 190 bucks and a GI 30 round magazine. This coved my entry fee to the match. I highly recommend anyone that is interested in three gun to Attend Larue Tactical's three gun match in the future.

Here are my videos. Not all stages are recorded due to my batteries going dead and some operator error on the part of my room mate while filming me. Here is what did get recorded.

Stage 1. Did you think a fat guy could crawl that fast?

Stage 6. (sucking wind) sorry for the multiple videos my roommate could not figure out the camera. Part of the reason for the slow shooting was I kept losing my eye relief. I need to practice shooting from awkward positions more.

By the way I met Cold and he is a great guy in person too. I got a free Noveske sticker. I wish I could have seen the pro's shoot. Next year I am going to figure out where to go between stages to see them shoot.
