If there is no need to mount anything to the handguard of an AR are there any problems with a carbon fiber hand-guard? I don't see very many AR's with them. Any objections? The three main manufacturers I've seen are Hi-perform, DPMS, and Clark Custom.

Thanks,
Brandon

PRI makes a nice, albeit expensive set of carbon fiber handguards. Nice if you need a rail here or there as well. When I had mine, I had no issues, but I have read of others getting CF splinters.

Very minimal weight or performance difference between carbon fiber and regular plastic handguards.

armakraut- there is a big difference- according to the project lightweight chart the clark carbon fiber is only a few ounces which is less than even 1 half of the 2 pc standard handguards
