I know its normal for brass marks to be left on the deflector after shooting your rifle. I just wipe that away with a little Hoppe's.

The question I have is it normal for some of the finish wear off down to bare aluminum from the cases hitting it?

On the sharp edge at the front of the deflector closest to the bolt, I noticed the finish looks like it was chipped off where the brass hit it in that particular area for a lack of a better term.

This upper is new and I have put just under 400 rounds through it for the first time on Sunday.

Its a very small area that is affected but I am curious if this is normal for a AR15.

Please forgive the noob question.

Thanks

Normal. If you look at the brass it will probably have a dent where it hit the edge. Some reloaders like to put a piece of velcro or tape over that spot to protect their brass.

I was able to remedy this somewhat by slowing my bolt speed down with a heavier buffer and tuning my ejector spring by slightly trimming it.
