I was wondering why I don't see or hear alot about Armalites. Can someone enlighten me?

I do not know. I just remember that the "armalites" of toady is not the armalite of yesteryear.

Another part of it could be on the civilian side I see more Bushmasters, RRA, and Stags at gun shops than I do Armalite and the Bushmasters and Stags are a little cheaper.

I was wondering how close Armalite follows the TDP myself.

I have one that I bought about ten years ago. It's boring. Works like a champ.

I have never had any problems with Armalite. They work well. However, They have their own ideas of what an AR should be and the TDP doesn't play into the package. You won't find many 1 in 7 barrels with Armalite stamped on them because they double lap their barrels and have deemed that to be good enough for all the minions. The Noveske 308 ARs are reworked AR10s.

I don't understand the connection between the 1-7 and double lap.

me either

I will admit that a 1 in 9 Armalite barrel stabilized 75gr Hornady when a 1 in 9 Bushmaster wouldn't.

That is a good point that I neglected to add. My 1:9 Armalite has stabilized the 75gr without fail.

I talked to Armalite quite a bit at Shot Show. They do a good number of things right (stake their carrier keys properly, mil-spec RE's, etc) and would put them far above RRA, BM, Oly, DPMS, etc.

That's interesting to know C4IGrant. In these parts, we have the choice of Stag, BM, Armalite and DPMS (mostly). Colt's are hard to come by unless one can find a used one at a local meet.

They make a decent AR15 clone. Beyond that, I wouldnt mess with their stuff having had some experience with their experimentation in the full-auto field...and my opinion of the AR10 is well known.

My Bushy 16'' M4 1/9 twist stabilizes 75gr rounds beautifully.:D

I like my Armalite and have never had any problems with it. It's a great gun from what I can tell.

At what distances have you shot the 75gr ammo at?

Some barrels will shoot 75gr okay -- either inside 100m -- OR it will be noticed its more of an 1:8 barrel --- best way is to rod the barrel and determine the twist that way.

I've seen a few Armalite and BM's that where closer to 1:7 (as in over 1:8) than 1:9 - despite being marked on the barrel 1:9.

Second point as was beaten TO DEATH in the BM thread -- one rifle does not a valid statistical sample size make.

When a department has a whole lot of bad guns -- thats a clue. When trainers see guns with re-occuring problems in a certain name brand or two -- thats also a clue.

One gun working well -- well good for you, its supposed to -- its not something to brag about.

This is what I was hinting at. A 1/7 twist barrel shoots a 55gr bullet just fine to about 110 yards and then we typically see all kinds of weird things happen. Same goes with 1/9 twist and 75/77gr ammo. Might work might not and might also only work well to 100yds.

100yds is the farthest Ive tried so far. It shoots about a 2 inch group.

Shoot past 100yds and see what you get.
