View Full Version : Keyhole symbol on upper
I've been noticing that most uppers have the same little keyhole shape on the ejection side of the upper? Whats this all about? Are all of these uppers made by the same manufacturer?

Nice list.
My DD upper has a keyhole looking thing on the ejection port side below the rear iron sight. I didnt see a letter, is this what you folks are talking about? Does that mean my upper is a Cerro forging??? Does DD just do the machining/finishing??
Yelp thats what the Keyhole is ,A lot of Companies use Cerro Forging .

My S&W M&P has no letter just the keyhole.
I kinda wondered what it meant but didn't care enough to ask. lol
My BCM midlength has the keyhole mark, but the BCM lightweight carbine upper i just recently got has a marking in the shape of a square, which i didn't see on the list.

My 2008 LMT has a Cardinal Forge upper. The 762x39 AR pistol I'm building also sports a cardinal forge upper.

I have a Rock River Arms upper and I have the keyhole symbol. Good to know that it's used by other reputable companies.

looks like BCM switched to Brass Aluminum forgings cause the BFH upper i got the other day also had the square mark on it.
they don't "switch," they just use what's available/cheap/whatever.

I currently have 3 BCM uppers. One is a Brass Aluminum Forgings and the other two are Cerro.
