View Full Version : Swaping Out BCGs on a Match Rifle...

I just took delivery on a BCM "Recce" upper with their 16" SS410 barrel. I'd like to do some shooting with it this Sunday, but my bolt carrier group isn't going to show up until Monday.

However, I do have an old commercial AR BCG sitting around. I think it's a DoubleStar or something like that.

Myself, I don't think that shooting a couple hundred rounds, then switching to the real BCG, is going to cause any undue wear. But I'd like to bounce it off the experts just the same.

Yea or nay?

Thanks,
Chris

Shouldn't cause any problems but you should check to make sure your old bolt won't close on a USGI FIELD or Colt FIELD II headspace gauge before firing.

I don't do it myself; I have a dedicated BCG for each rifle/upper. However, I do know people that swap BCGs between uppers regularly, and they do a significant amount of shooting like this without suffering ill effects...so far.
