Security Officer a viable career?

I'm currently a Public Safety Officer for a police department (READ:civilian position) with the opportunity to go to the police academy when the openings are there.

I worked in security for well over a year and got to do some pretty cool stuff being on a Stateside deployment team(READ: no over seas stuff). I loved loved that job. I'm seeing more and more security company's wanting career minded folks. So I'm starting to look into it.



Is this even viable? pro's con's?

Basically what are your thoughts?

Before transitioning from military to local PD I took a long look at the wakenhut jobs. The only reason I became a PO was basically the open ended oportunities available. When ever I get old and find out that patrol is not for me I can move to one of the burous.
