View Full Version : HK P2000 and high round counts

I have two questions:

Does the HK P2000 hold up to high round counts as well as the P30? Or is it less durable because it is an older design?

And one more: I know the HK P30 came out first in 9mm, and now .40. Since it was a 9mm first (it was, wasn't it?), I was wondering if HK took the proper steps to fortify it for the round?

Sorry if these questions have been discussed. I used the search engine, but I couldn't find anything.

Much thanks.

Awhile back Greg Bell did a "Project: Break My P2000" on the HKPro forums. That little gun in his reviews was pretty impressive. I think he had almost 13k rounds through the gun without a malfunction.

I'm not sure if HK changed anything for the P30 to accommodate the 40, but I'm sure they didn't sacrifice the reliability.

It has a heavier slide and recoil spring. It is really noticeable on the P30S .40 when compared to the P30 9mm. The P2000 is a solid design.

Like mugenr said, I ran a P2000 of mine hard a few years ago. I shot over 13k in a very brief period, most of which was steel cased crap and reloads with zero malfunctions. All the while I almost never bothered to clean it, threw it it in mud puddles, cleaned it with simple green in the kitchen sink, etc. Fantastic little gun. I suspect it is as durable as a Glock, and believe that it would be even more reliable over time (but both are so close to 100 percent that the difference is trivial).

Greg,

I've been meaning to tell you that my P2000 9mm V3 just hit the 11,000 round mark this past Wednesday. She pas past the 2k round challenge with 2680 rounds except a few failures to lock back on last round since my my friend had a odd grip. It did the same for me twice. Aside from that she was perfect.

I'll be cleaning that gun in a few hours. And my official results of the 2k rd challenge post in the thread shortly.

Smiter - My P2k 9mm looks ready for another 11k rounds, and plenty after that! ;)

loupav or others, can you compare and contrast the recoil, handling, ease of hitting with the P2000 vs say G19s? I've got a lefty in the household (18) and I've wondered if the P2000 might be a pretty lefty friendly design.

Thanks

P2000 is a very friendly lefty design with it ambidexterous controls(ambi mag release, slide release), my girlfriend runs my P2000sk fine. she's has pretty petite hands, with the small backstrap, all the controls can be manipulated with ease.

I've let people who love their G19 shoot my P2000 and they all pretty much say recoil is a little bit more tame on the P2000 than the G19.

I don't have a lot of rounds down range with my G19 (<200) So I can't really say, that and it's been a while since I've shot my G19. I did pick it up today....if that counts.;)

I've shot weak hand drills only and the ambi mag and slide release make everything easier. At least they did for me.

I would suggest going one step further.

Get the P30 with the LEM trigger of course.

Both are good guns, The P30 grips are even better than several of my 1911 custom's fit to my hand.

No real bad choices there.

Good luck.

Did any of you with P2000s or USP compacts ever experience the bottom cartridge in the magazine misfeeding? Specifically, the cartridge goes vertical, bullet-up. I saw it on several P2000s and heard of a nearby dept. having similar issues with USP Compact 40s.

Thank you.

I've had no problems with any of my Mags for my USPC SS 40.
