Back in the day, action movie star Chuck Norris couldn't escape adoring fans asking him for tips on how to fend off an attacker or how to take out eight opponents with a single roundhouse kick.

Now, it's all about "the facts," those "Chuck Norris Facts" that have become Internet legend (example: "There is no chin behind Chuck Norris's beard. There is only another fist").

So, when Norris made an appearance at the National Rifle Association's convention in Charlotte on Friday, he heard just as much about the facts as he did, say, gun racks.

"People have been telling me facts all day, today," Norris told POLITICO late last week. "I hear these new ones all the time. I'm thinking, 'How in the world do they think of all these things?'"

But Norris took to the NRA convention with a clear message: Register, or else.

"Fifty percent of hunters and self-identified gun owners are not registered to vote, and that's not going to help us in November,” he said.

Norris made it clear how he'll be voting in the fall.

"With President Obama really against gun rights, I'm very, very concerned," said Norris. "He has a certain ideology that we should be like Great Britain — no guns. ... I'm just a concerned citizen and I'm just concerned about the direction our country is heading and I'd love to see some way for us to be able to maintain the Constitution the way it is. The Constitution is not a living document. It means and it says what it means,” he said.

"If we don't get gun owners to vote in November, then we have no one to blame but ourselves,” he continued. “If we're just apathetic and we say that whatever happens will happen, then it's not going to be good for the future of our country. I'm really concerned about my kids and my grandchildren and I want them to have a country that they can grow up in and be proud of and, given the direction that we're going in now, that's not happening."

Now I love Chuck Norris jokes as much as anyone else, but he made a point. I moved out of state recently and have not registered to vote. Shame one me. I'm going to register to vote before November. Hope you all do the same! I can't believe all that has happened and nobody is in prison.

Norris got it wrong with us being the hunting crowd.

Michael Bane made it clear. The gun industry is not about hunting anymore.

Say what you will about him and others in the gun writing industry. They are often motivated by profit, but I believe he is a gun enthusiast first. His podcasts and blogs are alot more about personal experience and beliefs than promoting sponsors like he does on the Outdoor channel. Either way he make a good point I think we can all agree on.

From Michael Bane Blog:

I Hate To Say "I Told You So..."
...but, hey, some of us have been telling the industry this "so" for years! I got a release yesterday from NSSF on their newest NSSF/Harris poll. Here's the nut graf:

A new National Shooting Sports Foundation poll conducted by Harris Interactive found that more Americans are target shooting now than six months ago, and that “home and personal defense” were the main reasons Americans recently purchased firearms.

Bottom line — concealed carry, self-defense and competition are the engines that presently drive the gun business:

In response to a question about why Americans made their most recent firearm purchase, 40 percent of respondents said “home protection” followed by 36 percent citing “personal protection.” Target shooting (30 percent) and hunting (28 percent) came next.

Note that hunting came in 4th on that list. It wasn't that long ago that our trade organization said that the future of gun rights in America was "irrevocably" linked to hunting, and their massive survey of a couple of years back (which I had the temerity to question) delivered the same warmed-over crap and, unfortunately, sent the industry haring down the same dead-end paths.

"With President Obama really against gun rights, I'm very, very concerned," said Norris. "He has a certain ideology that we should be like Great Britain — no guns."

He should be very concerned. There are lots of handguns in the UK, mainly because criminals don't tend to pay much attention to bans and prohibitions. Banning guns does not tend to have the utopian ideal effects people think

Just in the last few days, for instance;

I don't care WHY he owns guns - the fact he's "for gunowners" - be they Grandma's with Webleys, Deer hunters with bolt action .243's, or me and my cabinet full of AR's - sure beats another leftist, libturd, Hollyweird sort being AGAINST us!

And there are ONLY 2 Chuck Norris jokes - all the rest, are TRUE stories!
