I finally got a LMT BUIS. It, of course, has a single thumb screw. What would be the best way to secure it? Thumb screw OK? Thumb screw and loctite? It seems I remember reading some of you replace the thumb screw with a hex head nut and use blue loctite, what size and where do you find them? Any other thougts, please chime in.

Thumb screw works perfectly fine with some blue loctite

There is also a mod known as the "McMaster nut mod"....the McMaster in the name refers to the company McMaster-Carr who makes the hex nut and nylon insert that replaces the bulky thumb screws.

The only person who I know did it right and had some pics is from a pal who goes by BuddyHoohaw on arfcom and I believe here as well so maybe he can weigh in and explain a little better than I can and so you a pic or two.

Here is some pics from from the org. source....almost at the end of the page.

I did basically the same "thumb-nut swap" on my CCH BUIS.

The hardware is an AN/MS spec self-locking nut, and was "acquired" from work a few years ago. One of the perks I guess you could say, from being in the aviation industry.

ETA: I posted this pic on numerous occasions over the years at "TOS".
