< 10 mins from ASC. I love where I live.
I'm downtown.
I imagine it's nice to be that close...except I hate ASC with a passion. They outright ban the kind of shooting that I find most valuable. What is it, 3-5 seconds between shots?:( Cool that they have some longer ranges though.
Impact Zone wins hands down...I need to talk to some of the folks I know that are members and see if they're accepting new members. With PSC where I am a member coming in somewhere after that. The facilities at PSC are nicer, and you avoid the range Nazis, but it's still ruled by guys with the sporting clays mentality. If PSC allowed carbines in the pistol bays, most of the downsides would be nullified.
San Antonio here, Leon Valley to be more specific. Also travel to Dallas/Fort Worth regularly to see family and do some shooting while I'm there (even though DFW ranges are stingy about FMJ/Rapid Fire/Holster Draws).

Seems like we have the same problem, although the range I frequent here in SA (bullethole) is pretty lax. On the other hand, when I don't get a private bay there I have about a 25% of seeing someone flag the whole line with their weapon.

Besides the major restrictions there, I find it one of the safer outdoor ranges around town (besides the private ones).
Don't get me started on Hot Wells but the good thing is that I can use their "LE" range.
I'm dead smack in the middle of PSC and Impact Zone. I wouldn't mind joining Impact Zone since I'd rather drive west than south.

East of the Rio Grand, but technically in NM if you go by current maps. :) Private membership runs me $120/year for the club just South of town and $150/year for another to the North West.
And the skies are not cloudy all day...;)

Northside, Spring area. I mostly shoot at Carters, but sometimes head up to Shooters Station in Conroe.
DFW here. Carrollton to be specific. I have mainly been shooting at the Garland Public Range. I need to check out Elm Fork as its closer, does anyone here shoot at Elm Fork? Anyways hit me up on PM if you want to get some range time in or just grab a beer or six.
Midland/Odessa area here, we only have one range in this area. Midland Shooters, it's an ok range just wish they had more to offer.

Check out Creekwood off 105, they have a decent pistol range, better than Thunder Gun Range & Gun Emporium. No rifle range at Creekwood due to the sporting clay route though...
Frisco....yeah, I hate it.

There's nothing wrong with Frisco. Out of the few cities I've lived in both Texas and 8 other states, it is by far my favorite city.
It's got everything you would want; from industry, moderate taxes, good schools, great sporting facilities, close to anywhere in DFW, great restaurants and stores, it has it all.
I curious to hear their reasoning for disliking Frisco.

No dislike here, all I said was "I hear ya." as in I understand everyone has a grievance about something around them. I like Frisco, as me and the wife shop there all the time. It is certainly better than Carrollton at this time. Carrollton is starting to have a massive influx of thugs lately. My place was actually robbed right before Thanksgiving, so IMO Frisco is a better place to be. Now if aff_667 wants to give some more details on his hate then that's up to him. Apologies if I offended ya'll. Have a good one and stay safe ya'll.

No offense taken Chance... I didn't mean to come across in a defensive manner, I just wanted to give sadmin a different perspective. See you around !!!
Take care,
why do you guys dislike Frisco...just curious since my wife wants to move there someday.
I simply don't have the time or energy to write it all down...Although I'm not from Frisco (born and raised in Dallas), I joined the FD there as a volunteer in the very early 90s, moved there in 1995, and worked as a paid FF/P there until 2006. I still remember when theyl rolled up the sidewalks at 2100. McDonald's coming to town was HUGE!!! I still live here, too.
There are good folks here, as there are everywhere, but city leadership has historically tried to fart higher than its collective ass, and that attitude has pretty much dictated how the city has developed, the people who have become attracted to it, etc.
I realize I sound like I'm just being bitchy, I suppose, but hang around town long enough and you'll pick up on the weird vibe. Drink the Kool-Aid or prepare to be underwhelmed and disappointed once the new wears off.
PM me if you have any specific questions.
ETA: It's a very, very economically competitive city, much worse than Plano ever thought about being in many ways.

Where do you shoot?
Usually at Marksman. Outdoors, it's Texas City or Clear Creek. I can hit the Clear Creek range with a rock from my place, but I consider it a last resort. If I'm at Marksman, it's usually after 8 when the goofballs have gone home. :D
I may start hitting the new Best Shot range over on 2351. I went by when they were re-doing the place and it seemed pretty nice. The owner seems like a good guy, too.
Checking in from San Antonio/Helotes. Mostly shoot at the Bullet Hole or on private land in Castroville, Rio Medina, or Uvalde. Get them pigs!!!

I also shoot at Marksman! Not very often, but like you I enjoy shooting there when there's plenty of lanes available.
I just got my first long gun (BCM Middy) and looking forward to shoot more often than I do now. Got any range suggestions? I want to take a look at PSC, but would like to try one or two places before I commit to a year long membership.
Texas City has a really nice municipal range (http://www.texas-city-tx.org/ShootingRange.htm). They only accept cash or checks, though, so be prepared for that. The bench area is all concrete and they have concrete walkways out to the targets.
The Clear Creek range is ok in a pinch, but not very family-friendly. The guy who runs it has a bit of a potty mouth (not that I don't, but I wouldn't expose kids to it).
Hit me up on PM if you go and maybe the wife and I will join you.
Hey guys. Just PCSd to San Antonio.
Any recommendations for a reliable quality shop around to get some pistol sights installed and maybe some other gunsmithing work?
Northwest Houston here. I'm a member of Bayou Rifles, so I shoot mostly at their two private ranges, but also shoot at ASC, Hot Wells, Memorial, and Top Gun.

Hey everyone, I am from Humble on the NE side of Houston but doing a 3-5 year hich in the NOVA area with DHS. We hope to be heading home in just about 4 years and 3 months;). Really miss it back home, NOVA is a nice place to visit and work for a while but it reminds you how Great Texas really is.
When I am back home for visits I shoot at Sportsmans in Humble, Carters or at my work range up by Cleaveland.

if anyone wants to shoot this weekend and needs some company, I need to sight in a 6.8 and put some ammo down range with a 5.56.
Im open to driving, otherwise Im prolly going to ASC due to location.

Yep, forgot to add that I shoot at Shiloh from time to time also. I have done their Tuesday night beginner's tactical class...lots of fun.

I actually live across from Uptown, other side of 75. I just like to say Uptown because most people know where that is. In reality I'm really in the ghetto, albeit a nicer recent development in the ghetto. So to answer your question, not easily...my car got broken into twice and there was a stabbing right outside our complex in the 7 months I've been here. Lesson learned, and really putting my CCW to good use.

Hello from South West Texas! Same town as 'AShooter'. I don't get out much, but i do talk "shop" with him more often than none.

Does anyone live near/around Terlingua? I'm looking at buying some land around there. Currently in Afghanistan and looking to relocate when I go home. Would gladly take any advice/recommendations.
I'm only "near" there, but i can say i've been to the Ghost town there. Why Terlingua, if you don't mind me asking? It's pretty dead over there. Like, seriously.
They do have the "Terlingua Chili Cook-off" which i hear gets pretty WILD.
YH432 good to see another fella from Sanderson. As you already know, if AShooter (L) tells you it's Easter, time to get your eggs dyed & all. As solid a fella as they come, trained w/ him more than once, always glad to have him next to me in a SH or on a square range.

Indeed he is! Really like that guy. :D I haven't actually trained nor went shooting with him yet, but i do feel as if he has impacted my life some. I'm really more of a "collector" right now, yet he's piqued my interests in getting out and shooting more.
I keep pestering him about the various courses and classes he frequents.

I just recently moved out of California to the Austin, TX area. Is there a thread regarding shooting ranges in the area?

Thanks! I don't remember the traffic being this bad 13 years ago....
I'm an outdoors range kind of guy and the Austin Rifle Club caught my attention but it seems their membership process is a little over the top. Any recommendations?

It wasn't. And it wasn't this crowded. And it wasn't full of aggressive drivers. I could go on and on, but I won't.
Yes, ARC is a private range open to members and their guests only. But, non-members can shoot there as part of a sanctioned match. I am glad it is a private range and the laborious membership process does weed out most of the crazies that you typically find at the public ranges.
If you check out the calendar you will see numerous opportunities, mostly on weekends, to participate in various matches:
http://austinrifleclub.org/index.php?option=com_jevents&Itemid=124&task=month.calendar&month=06&year=2013
For example:
Texas Tactical IDPA Match Saturday, 22 June 2013, 08:00am - 05:00pm
ALSPPC Steel Challenge Pistol Match Sunday, 23 June 2013, 07:30am - 04:00pm
Texas Tactical Event Saturday, 29 June 2013, 08:00am - 05:00pm
ALSPPC Practical Pistol Match Sunday, 30 June 2013, 07:00am - 05:00pm
There are some kind of tactical match happening just about ever weekend.
You can also go out during one of the matches just to watch and to see the range facilities.
Best of the West is a bit of a hike for me, but it does have a 1,000 yard range. ARC is much closer to Austin, but it is limited to 200 yards.
http://texasshootingrange.com/amenities-and-range-fees/
"We offer two skeet fields, two trap fields, a 50- 1,000 yd. rifle range, 14 pistol lanes, 12 tactical bays and a CHL bay. We are the premier shooting range in Texas for perfecting your shooting skills."
Edited to add: Previous to this I posted a response regarding ARC and for some reason I got a message that it had to be reviewed by a mod. Beats me as to why. I guess it will show up sometime. I didn't keep a copy.
I'm curious about what you had to say about ARC.
Just that a private range and a difficult membership process goes a long was toward keeping the crazies out.
Also, there are numerous matches that are open to the public. You should attend or participate in one so you can check out the range to see if you are interested.
Just click on the calendar, on the homepage:
