Ok guys, I went into a shop today and they had the current 62 grain m855 lake city in the box (loose)for like 750 bucks 1k rounds. I remembered they used to have the Winchester M855 but they were sold out, so he showed some cheaper stuff. The cheaper stuff is identical to this: (including 30 rounds and stripper clips)

Except they were green tips. The brass says lake city 09 and has the nato stamp. The box they came in was blank. Now they were only 319. Why so much cheaper? Did I get screwed into thinking I bought 62 grain M855? I opened up the bullet from the case and it looked good compared to real lake city. Why so much cheaper? Any ideas? Sorry I dont have a camera.

What you linked to at AIM's is not M855. It is similar to Mil-spec M193, 55 g FMJ-BT, lead core, etc.

I know, it is exactly like that though same box, strippers, lake city etc,BUT has green tips. I just cant imagine it is REAL lake city just wanted to know the manufacturer. Thanks though. I know it is a vague description.

If you want to know for sure put a magnet to the bullet, if it sticks, you may have M855. The bullet in M855 will also have a straighter ogive than an M193 bullet (more rounded ogive), and be very much more cone shaped , and pointed.

This may seem like a dumb question, but are you sure you got 1000rds? Sometimes 5.56x45 is packaged 500rds per case.

No kidding!

Heck if you're just after some steel-core 62 grain, I wonder how this compares to legit M855?
