Where do you place yours? I place my about in the middle of the top part of the frame on my Glock.

Along the accessory rail on my HKs. Actually, the side of the thumb is resting within the groove.

Todd Screws a lot of what he says up, but do as he does, not as he says necessarily (when he's talking about the joint on the trigger, or the first knuckle on the trigger :D ).

He knows what he's doing, but that part of the brain that the rest of us have filled with speech functions is full of shooting in his :)

Thanks, Josh.

Looking at the pic Loknlod posted, other than my support hand not being angled forward as much as it should be, I think our basic thumb position is the same - I'm just not touching the frame of the gun with my thumbs. I've got pretty big hands with long thumbs and fingers and have full contact with the gun without using my thumbs; I haven't noticed any difference yet. That said, I'm still tweaking my grip.

On my 1911's I ride thumbs high, however on my P30 because of the ginourmous slide stop I have to run my weak side thumb against the trigger guard while I rest my strong thumb on top of it...:(

For a while I was actually tucking my thumb down low against the lower part of the trigger guard trying to find a repeatable comfortable shooting position with it.

Now compare that to my old, less refined grip:

Notice that my weak hand is now lower on the gun, as I can get a better purchase on the grip that way and I don't deactivate the slide lock.

Generally I try to keep my thumb in the pictured position...but ultimately it really doesn't matter in my shooting. Sometimes the thumb may be higher or lower. One nice thing about polymer handguns is you can stipple a reference point on the frame where you want your thumb to go...and perhaps even gain a little bit of traction on the gun that way, albeit a very minimal amount.

This isn't me, but my grip looks exactly like this:

Relatively parallel to the slide and resting alongside the frame. Contact is light/minimal.

That is how mine looks as well.

I am having to relearn where to put my thumb when shooting the M&P because it tends to rest on the slide release which cause failures to lock.

Same-same.

Marshall, I have stuck a small patch of Decal Grip on the frame in front of my M&P's take down lever as a reference point. My thumb is automatically drawn to it ans stays put. It seems to remedy this problem.

With my Glocks and M&P I place my reaction side thumb slightly higher and more forward, almost pointing to the target.

I don't get too worried about where my thumbs are, I try to focus on their alignment.

I like my weak hand thumb to be in a straight line with forearm, running along the frame (in the same direction as the bore). I find it's mildly uncomfortable at first, but once I got used to it, it offers a lot of support.

With my P30, i have to leave my weak hand thumb off the gun, due to the lovely slide stop (ony thing i dont like about the P30). It looks like im trying to hitch a ride and shoot my pistol at the same time. LOL. With any Sig,Glock or XDM, i leave it resting mid frame, above the trigger. Same as most of these pics show.

Riding along the frame towards what I'm shooting at.
