OK, Hi All,
First post and looks like I will have to sell my FAL HB to do it. Pains me but need some cash and still want a solid weapon with remaining funds. So my dilemma is quality vs. completeness. I know you'll say built quality over completeness. So I love iron sights and don't mind waiting on Aimpoint/mount. I'm looking at a mid 16" with Fixed front & rear (rail mount, not handle). I don't mind building the gun, but I no longer have any AR specific tools. So I will have some cost in block, wrench/s, possibly hg removal tool - or better to save money with assembled upper? So can I build up a quality BCM/DD combo for less than $1200? I prefer a best LW bbl/bolt and quality 2-stage trigger. Also would like the most rugged and accurate rear sight. Would rather not waste money on low budget stocks, but will if that's what it will take for now. Possible or do I need to get off the crack pipe? thanks

I like to use both webistes, BCM for uppers and G&R for everything else. You can put together a really nice setup minus Aimpoint/Eotech/Trijicon etc and rails for under $1100. As far as tools go I put together my first lower with a cheap castle nut wrench+cheater bar, some punches I got from Harbor Freight, hammer, block of wood, lots of blue painters tape, and my foot :D I plan to do the same when I build a middy.

If you have an idea of what you are looking for, shoot G&R an email, they should be able to come up with all of the parts as they deal BCM products, plus you can save some scratch on shipping.

I'm in similar waters and a few things.

I love my MOE stock, really solid, and the MIAD grip as well (I have larger than normal hands so the grip is a godsend).

For a possible front end I may suggest something like a Troy Industries, I've gotten a 9" Viking Tactical Battlerail from Troy in the mail to put on my SBR.

As far as iron sights, if your going folding (like I will be) I hear that Troy are the standard.
