you need to make this if you can. If for no other reason than it being so rare to get the group together in WA. Already being on the island makes it a shorter day for you than most of the others that are coming.

if you are at Lewis then there are plenty of places to shoot, just depends what you are wanting to shoot.
Fort Lewis range is decent unless its closed for the winter
the marksman in puyallup off canyon/512 > i shoot and buy all my guns here
the bullseye in tacoma has a range (never been)
plus there are a few sportsman clubs in the area (puyallup and yelm)
and most locals just find a empty area out in the woods and shoot shit up, like in elbe or eatonville

If you don't like shooting at "The Pit" up in the Capital Forest, you may want to try the Evergreen Sportsman Club or Capitol City Gun Club. Cap City requires membership, but Evergreen is open to the public. Both are south of Olympia. Evergreen is over near the Mima Mounds area, and Cap City is just south of Little Rock. There are a few decent areas up near Rock Candy Mountain/Summit Lake area, as well as down off of the "D" line on the south side toward Gate.
West Seattle resident, checking in. Armed and ready. Recently got the AR bug and I'm now wondering what took me so damn long. It's good to see so many local members. :)

Can anyone recommend a good gun smith in the Seattle area? All I really need done right now is to get a Battle Comp put on, but I may want some more work in the future. My default is to go to West Coast Armory, but I'm wondering if there are other options I should be looking at.
Thanks!

I've been to NF land in the greenwater area around 5-6 times since moving here. We always have a blast. There are some over used spots, but if willing to explore the forest roads a bit you can find some spots that haven't become a trash dump yet.
New to forum, life member of the West Coast Armory Range in Factoria/Bellevue, probably one of the top ranges in the country.
If you go say Ike sent you. I live close to that range.
Just curious, what makes the range one of the best in the nation and what other ranges have you been to in order to compare to the WCA and arrive at that conclusion?

A partner and I were in the planning stage of building a range here in the Seattle area and we did research and study of equipment, size, location, number of bays, tactical bays for member and law enforcement training even went to the NRA convention that was specifically for this purpose in Phoenix and visited the Scottsdale gun club and learned and saw many examples of ranges in various parts of the country, I went recently to two gun ranges in Las Vegas including the newest one which also was very very nice.
Our plan to build a range did not materialize but soon after that WCA was built, opened and I became a life member.
It is a great range with modern equipment, 4 bays, with more in process of being added, gun rental, store, available training by a top shooting school (Insights) and great instructors, LE training, and probably one of the friendliest and nicest staff in any store/range you can find, just go visit and you will see.
Now I don't have ownership or any shares in that range I just like to say good things about places I patronize and like.
I saw that WCA hosts IDPA on Tuesdays. Anyone know if those matches are for members only?

Good luck, bro, most of Puget Sound's ranges I've found (and I've checked the websites for ranges from Everett to Olympia) seem to be Fudd Central other than 1x/month at Renton Fish & Game.
Does ANYWHERE around this pinko shithole let you use any mag bigger than a Klintoon Klip? Sure would be nice to be actually able to FUNCTION TEST real mags...

Come a little further north. On Thursdays Marysville Rifle Club is open to the public 1000-1600, no mag restrictions. Targets at 50, 100, 200, and some steel at 225. $10, show up early as it can get packed quick.

It's not THAT bad, it's all about learning to embrace the good (SBR's are legal w/ no mag restrictions) and the loopholes in the bad aka 1639 (receivers including pistol frames exempt for the next year).

I lived in Hawaii for a very long time and the one public range didnt really bother me. After living on acreage in SD and having tons of places to shoot in Missouri free of range fees an range nazis, I guess Im a bit spoiled. All I've seen so far is indoor static ranges here, there is plenty of forest service land closeby but from what I gather it's not gun friendly like it is in other states with multiple public ranges on FS roads. I'd like to try a couple new disciplines while I'm here, cowboy action shooting and hi power service rifle. I'd be willing to join a club for either, just wish the public land was more shooter friendly.

Yeah the public ranged around here pretty much suck ass.
Lots of gravel pits down on Weyerhauser land in Lewis County. Worth the drive.
Cascade Shooting Facilities down near Maple Valley/Black Diamond is a pretty good, mostly non-fudd range. I joined several years ago due to no silly restrictions on AR's, like being force to single load, etc. They have regular public access. Ranges include a pistol range, several rifle ranges out to 600, but to shoot at 600 you have to qual. The one downer is if you want to become a member, there's a waiting list.
ETA: Kenmore range in Bothell == the original prototype of fudd. Single-loading AR's, range nazi's running the place, pretty much useless for anything except running bolt guns or pistol training.
Also, a brand new indoor gun range just opened in Bothell called Securite' (https://securitegc.com/). I joined this for pistol and short-range AR training, pretty close to where I live so...we'll see how it goes.
