What do the top ten cities (over 250,000) with the highest poverty rate all have in common?

Detroit, MI (1st on the poverty rate list) hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1961.

Buffalo , NY (2nd) hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1954.

Cincinnati , OH (3rd) hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1984.

Cleveland , OH (4th) hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1989.

Miami , FL (5th) has never had a Republican mayor.

St. Louis , MO (6th) hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1949.

El Paso , TX (7th) has never had a Republican mayor.

Milwaukee , WI (8th) hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1908.

Philadelphia , PA (9th) hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1952.

Newark , NJ (10th) hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1907.

Both the current City of Miami and Miami-Dade County Mayors are Republican. Their predecesors were Republicans as well.

Sure, big cities have Democrat mayors - not a big surprise. I'd rather see a link to specific policies than the letter after the mayors name. Tax issues, school quality and management and job friendliness all matter more to me. Plus, this has to be for physical city entities, not metro areas, I'd think.

Its sad, but I dont think El Paso will ever get a republican mayor. They all want open borders here. This town is crazyily left leaning. But if you continue to give something free to someone, why would they work for it.

Yep. I think Franklin county now has about 1.2-1.3 million and about 750k within the heart of the city.

I disagree. Who do you think help get the current potus into power? With the promise of payment, no mortgage, and free gas; they showed up in droves (thanks in huge part to Acorn).

If you were to look at the numbers for a liberal State (IE: Maryland); you'll see that the dumbokrats have been winning elections there for decades because of the sheer numbers of the voters in Baltimore City and Prince George County. These contain the most number of poor (read: on welfare) residents for that State.

I bet if you were to look at the numbers in any state this would be true. Just sayin'. :rolleyes:

The surrounding suburbs of Detroit were very nice, however. Until NAFTA, GATT, WTO, etc., began to take a throat hold.
