Norh Shelby county. the fop range falling plates are indeed addictive.
I'm a Cordova resident (Walker County). We're about forty-five miles West of Birmingham. My range is just out the back door ;) . I do on occaision go to the F.O.P range as a visitor, maybe one or two times a year just for the fun of it.

Anybody have experience at the Magic City Gun Club in Pinson near Turkey Creek? Thinking about going to the public match 3rd Saturday of next month...
I work in Alabaster/Pelham area and a guy I work with was telling me about the Helena range.
TRIDENT82:
Isn't it about 5 or so miles behind the Publix?
Which one of you is Rich? Are you the one on the Lee Davis show from time to time?
Hey pal, yeah its about 5 miles past publix and you just keep going til the road turns non paved.
Here is a thread I started on the other site with updates and such on the conditions at the range.

plenty of grief for it too. ;)

Well the final interview question was: "Last question, 'Bama or Auburn?"
My response was 'Bama, because I saw them wearing 'Bama gear from their badge lanyard, to their coffee mugs. It was the obvious choice. Now I'm stuck with it. :secret:
However I told them I will still cheer for my Alma Mata regardless...The Monarchs of Old Dominion University :haha:

Former B-ham resident...
We used to frequent a couple indoor ranges, but I don't think they are open anymore. Interested in learning about good places to shoot for the next time I'm in town.

So where are you getting to shoot these day now that you live in Hoover?....I live in Hoover as well.

Had a blonde moment when I read that comment LOL!!
I don't own a rifle yet :( so I just drive down to ATI. I like the range and the staff, so it's not that bad. Waiting to see what Hoover Tactical does. They say they had the old Bruno's building but that fell through and now it's going to be a dang car dealership....
the owner of Hoover Tactical Firearms son is a real close buddy of mine from college who is now a hoover pd officer....and his dad before opening the shop was the long time homicide det. in hoover. They really are great people that are always willing to help out.
Once its a bit cooler if you wanted you can meet me at the Cahaba WMA free range and I got you covered in terms of ARs and HKs handguns:cool:. Another member rolltide13 and I have been planning on meeting up and doing some shooting so I will be sure and let you know when that materializes and if you wanted to join, bring it on:)

What rifle are you bringing up there to shoot....? You bringing the SD-3G:)
Heck yeah, I'm running two SD3Gs through their paces right now...might have to change the CQB back to a SDE or Combat though - it's pretty light you know. I am planning on bringing my M4gery (16" w/ ACOG) and an SBR w/ CQB (11.5" w/T1) and Recon (14.5" w/TRG) uppers.
The CQB upper is still waiting on a KAC IWS lower - got an extra? LoL

Calera here. Work in the Gump, but live up toward Birmingham (Dont live where ya play). I'm out at the range in Helena once every few weeks. I would def be in for a meet if it fits in my crazy, ever changing work schedule.
Alright, how'd you guys do in this weather?
Not too bad, stuck at home for the most part. Kind of difficult to be an off duty first responder and not even be able to get down the driveway to go to work or help anybody else. Fiance got stuck downtown but had a friends house a few miles away she was able to walk to. A co-worker drove up from Montgomery and got me yesterday and we were able to pull a few people out and give out some snacks & water.
On a positive note, my fiance doesn't think I'm crazy for keeping a bag in the car all the time. She's letting me put her a bag together for her trunk now...hopefully I can just blame all gun purchases on "preparation" ha
We were stuck on 65 north before Valleydale for over an hour. Decided to take the risk of Valleydale to Caldwell Mill and slowly got there. When we got to the steep hill on Caldwell so many people had slid down and crashed there was no way. Even 4x4s were turning around.
So we decided to make our way out to 280 since traffic was moving that way. We slowly were making our way and when we got about 1/2 mile from 280 there was a gulley people were sliding down and not able to get up the hill. After a couple of hours sitting a Jeep started towing people up one by one. Looked like he was doing good until he tried to pull up this big Ford truck and quit.
We turned around and went all the way back to 31 and it was like a ghost town. We ate at the Waffle House about 1 AM and drove to 459. There were no cars til we got to 280 and it was a parking lot. We kept hoping the traffic would eventually move but sat in one place until about 11 or 12 Wednesday morning when they got traffic moving single file across the Liberty Parkway bridge. After that it was smooth sailing to 59 :)
Hey guys.. thread went a little quiet. I will be moving to Birmingham in the next few weeks. Anybody still shoot around the area? Rifle/Carbine, Pistol, Shotgun.. really anything!
