Here's a pic of my pre-ban Daewoo AR-100 sidefolder. It's really not as ergonomic as an AR, weighs more than a .223 really needs to, and the safety/selector is difficult to switch from safe to fire due to the 180 degree swing, but it's something different!

Accuracy is good, even with 55gr Wolf and reliability is excellent. It's no AR, but it does attract attention at the range.

I like them better than AR's actually. There's alot of nice features on them.

Forum dedicated to Daewoo firearms, and the host site http://daewoorifleparts.com/ is making parts.

If you own a Daewoo, it's the place to go.

Thanks for the links! Back in the mid 90's before the internet, our K2's gas piston broke. Luckily, a local welder took care of it. Now I can sleep a little better at night knowing new parts are available.

That site looks pretty empty...

I didn't dig too deep though...

Yeah, it's just started, and you have to figure there's only so many Daewoo owners to begin with. Like any board, getting the word out is key, and that's just started. Though the number of people that will ever post on it will be limited because of the number of rifles around.

If you own a Daewoo, then you know the deal with parts and anything else, like information. It's a better set-up than the Yahoo one, and far more user friendly IMHO.

For decades people have had rifles sitting idle because they lost a gas plug, charging handle, broke some small part, etc. and now they can at least get those parts. Some things like the 90 degree saftey selector that they'll have out soon are going to make the rifle a little nicer as well.

I don't expect it to get big, but in some cases BIG isn't really where it's at.

Forums are a big part in keeping guns like that popular or at the very least, usable.

I was thinking you had said that it was a big site so I had to see for myself...

I'd actually like to get a Daewoo Rifle, Car and TV. ;)

I see nothing wrong with that!

If the XCR is a good rifle, why can't this be too?

I like the scope mount. It is probably perfect for a scope with regular rings but could probably stand to be a little shorter if using an Aimpoint and definitely for an Eotech.

Well, the rifle that started this thread is no longer mine. I bought it from one friend, sold it to another to purchase something else I wanted, then got it back a few years later. Unfortunately, this pic was taken right after I got it back, but my friend has second thoughts about parting with it. So, it resides back in his safe now. But, the way we trade guns back and forth, I'm sure I'll own it again someday.

At least that frees up a little more money for another AR!

The first time I saw a Daewoo was in 1981 at Aero Marine in Birmingham, Alabama. My best friend and I were in our first year in college. We had never been in Aero Marine, but had heard of them. They had the largest section of firearms in the Southeast.

While we were there one of the salesman said that he had some new rifles in from Korea and they were Daewoos. He turned and around and handed my a K-1 Daewoo. I thought that this has to be the UGLYEST gun I have ever seen. I could see my friend thought so too. You have to remember Remington and Ruger were still making rifles that were deep blued and had beautiful wood stocks. This was the days before Black Rifles were common.

He told us the they were made in Korea; it's a .223. It came with a sling and 3 USGI 30 rounds magazines and a US cleaning kit. At the time, they sold about $250. (That was in 1981) Well, neither of us had the money. Besides it was the UGLYEST gun we had every seen.

Later on I learned more about Daewoos. I found out they were very good guns. And, actually the gun wasn't all that ugly. It was born for battle not deer hunting in the South.

The last Preban Daewoo I saw was NIB at a gun show and the price was $1500 and that was about two years ago. I wanted to kick myself for not buying 5 or 10 of them in 1981.

Here's my Deawoo DR-200 I absolutely love it. Got it at a gun show in 2000 for $700, I had always wanted one. I just wish I could get rid of the fake flash hider.

I've been shooting it in 3-gun and practical rifle matches for 5 or 6 months now. It's not holding me back.

Berd how did you replace your flash hider, did you do it yourself or send off to have it done?

Mine had already been removed when I bought the rifle.

Derek at AZEX/DRP offers that exact service though

I had Derek shorten the barrel on mine to 16.25" and put on a Daewoorifleparts.com reproduction of the K2 flash hider on the barrel.

Excellent work, the man knows his woos.

The Daewoo is a piston AR that works.
