So for my next AR I have made up my mind to go with an 18" barrel.
Rainier Arms has an 18" mid or an 18.5" SPR Rifle length, So what would be the best choice? or does it even matter?

Impliment you searchFU. Some folks say midlength as riflelength might not be reliable in cold weather. I myself have a few rifle length in 18" and like it. Naturally these were 20" barrels cut down to 18"(except for one White Oak SS I am using for another SPR build)

Is there an issue with 18" barrels/rifle length gas systems being undergassed? I am asking, not sure myself.

i've heard about the reliability in cold weather and thats not a problem where I am, I think im going to go with the rifle length

The issue you should explore is undergassing. Only two inches of barrel length past the gas port may cause short stroking with some ammunition. Experts, please chime in.

The only other barrel I see that I like is the Noveske 18" Intermediate, it just cost $100.00 more than the Rainier and im not sure what justifies that.

I guess because it comes with the gas block and tube

I recommend if you get an 18" rifle length they use the correct MK12 size gas port. The gas port is actually quite large but runs the gun very reliably. For that I recommend Centurion Arms. Their SPR barrel is as close to a real Mk12 barrel as you are going to get.

Id also look at the Noveske SS 18" which has an intermediate gas system which is likely the "best" for an 18". Rifle length works as long as the gas port is the right size.

If you want a cheaper option the WOA SPR 18" is a commercial version of the Mk12 barrel, and should work fine, too.

I believe there would be 6 inches...

Either will work.

I will take a different approach - come up with a total budget for the upper AFTER your expected round count, THEN decide which barrel you want to go for.

I might have to go with the Noveske
