I'm considering getting a set of Troy's backups and am intrigued by the new M4 version.

I always liked the looks of the standard shrouded front sight but very recently I saw pictures comparing the new and old and the post in the old version was sitting very low in the sight. I had heard the round hood could be distracting and could cause you to try and center the circular hood in the rear sight and end up not correctly centering the tip of the post. Until seeing these pictures I didn't think it would be that big of a deal or would matter all that much but now I realize the sight picture on this sight may look really odd:

New on left, old on right:

Here they are side by side:

By "odd" I'm referring to how low that post sits in the "circle."

The new front sight also seems quite a bit smaller in most dimensions.

Most places sell them for the same price.

**I found these photos posted by Duffy on TOS but thought I'd spread the wealth here and of course, get real opinions**

Like the new M4 version better.
BTW, anyone know what the width of the Troy sight post is?

Same as an AK post- that's what it uses.

I like it too.

By it being a "M4" sight, is it no good for 18"+ barrels?

Post height is the same as the previous Troy and most other front BUIS.
The M4 name comes from the appearance of the 'ears' IIRC.

Yeah, just the shape of the ears...
