Anyone using the McFarland Gas Ring? If so how well do they work and hold up?

Maybe just doing a Google search would be better then asking the M4 forum.

No answers there...

Seriously, there was just a lot of contentious debate the last time this came up.

I laugh now... every time time I see a thread posted with that title(every other month).

I think the general consensus was "buy it, try it, and keep it too yourself"
...it's like the abortion issue.

I now have about 2K through a set of the McFarland gas rings (800 in the Vickers/Hackathorn low light class). I have also installed them on close to 50 BCG"s without a problem reported back to me.

So IMHO, they work just fine and I will continue to use them.

Grant, I have a question for you recently I installed a McFarland gas ring in my BMF bolt but when I put my bolt back into the bolt carrier is has a very snug & tight fit! Is this normal? Would it cause any problems? Thanks in advance.

I have heard they fit pretty tight in the bolt carrier. The only way to know if they are good to go is shooting the weapon... good excuse for a Friday Range Afternoon :D

It is 100% normal. Make sure to apply some oil to the gas rings and then just go shoot it.

According to the manufacturer, they have only seen issues with bolt carriers that were out of spec. I have installed the McFarland GR's on over 50 FN contracted BCG's to date without a single one returned.

Grant & TacDoc, Thanks for the info! I guess I have to go shooting this weekend.
