My wife wants a Lightweight upper flatop. She wants in in 1:9 Twist chrom lined because she does not want me to run out and rebarrel my rifles for the fun of it to complete with her 1:7 twists.

Any Ideas on where to get it from? She is only 110 pounds and skinny so the lightweight would be good for her.

This will go on a RRA lower. I got a deal on them last year. 2 for $200.

I built a lightweight for my wife as well. I had my local gunsmith/machinist turn a .750" barrel down to original M16 specs from a spare barrel I had laying around from an M16 rebarrel project. It could easily be accomplished by getting a new "pencil barrel". I like her's so much, I use it when I'm teaching carbine classes.

Colt SP1 upper receiver and a Colt or Bushmaster .625" (aka pencil barrel). A Colt 1/2 circle AR15 bolt carrier is also very light for a VERY light build. If you want even lighter build her a SBR with a .625" 11.5" Colt 6933 barrel.

For the barrel, I think the Bushmaster lightweight barrel should do you. I have one, I like it. I haven't made it to the range to shoot it for accuracy.

As I understand it, an A1 upper is lighter than the A2 and the A2 is lighter than the A3 w/active sights, but even with that understanding all my future uppers will be A3.

Regular handguards would be the lightest option, but rails are cool.

I'd get a Bushmaster Superlight upper from PK Firearms. That's what I did, and I sure like it. It can be had in A1, A2, or Flat-top, whatever works for you. I went with the flat top and couldn't be happier.
