Being unemployed gives you a lot of free time, and almost all of mine is spent listening to music in some form. I'm curious what the folks here on M4C have "blasting" on their music player, whether it be a artist, CD or genre!

I have Ray Lamontagne's "Trouble" CD that I'm working on finishing. Very classy acoustic artist, with amazing lyrics. My favorite song off the CD is Shelter.

Cool, thanks man! I was watching Magpul's "The Art Of The Tactical Carbine" and noticed some pretty cool background music. I hoped there was something in the credits but, nope. Oh well.

There's a couple of bands/songs listed here that I'll have to check out. I'm always looking to expand my R&G playlist. While there are a lot of great songs on my iPod, not many really get me in the shooting mood like the ones on my list.

Judas Priest
Black Sabbath
Ted Nugent

RUSH
Metallica
Y&T
Scorpions
Molly Hatchet
Thin Lizzy
Lynard Skynard
Megadeath
Kansas
Alice Cooper
Deep Purple
Styx
KoRn
WASP
The Allman Brothers
Warrant
TNT
Poison
Queensryche
Jimi Hendrix
Ozzy Osbourne
Nazareth
Foreigner
Led Zepplin
and more occupy space on my hard drive.

In 1983 I graduated High School a little early and celebrated my 17th B-day in a bar in Warren Pennsylvania. I ran lighting and sound for a Metal band whom I was friends with. Most of the bands in my playlist were also on our set lists.

After I got out, I listened to DMB saw them in concert for 10yrs straight.

I'm at six years straight. My tastes are pretty eclectic, but bands that are better live than in a studio are really the only ones that qualify for my favorite list.

My playlist that's getting the most play right now is filled out with the likes of these.
DMB
O.A.R.
Modest Mouse
The Gourds
Blues Traveler
Violent Femmes
George Thorogood
The Traveling Wilburys

My taste in music is all over the place.

First and foremost I'm a jamband guy:
Phish, Grateful Dead, moe., String Cheese Incident, Steve Kimock Band, DMB

but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy a little rap (if its quality, and at this point I guess considered old school):
Outkast, Dre, Snoop, Beastie Boys

sometimes I'll jazz it up:
Miles Davis, Grant Greene, Jimmy Smith, Wes Montgomery

can go a little harder but typically I don't like my music screaming at me:
RATM, Pantera

Classic rock--check:
Led Zeppelin, Clapton, etc

And to the Parrot head earlier in the thread--everybody loves Buffett rigth:D

But since OP asked what I'm listening to right now, the 2 cd's in the car are:
Eminem - Recovery
Avenged Sevenfold - the self titled one

CarlosDJackal

Type O Negative

One of my favorites along with Tool. Sadly, since Peter Steele passed away earlier this year, there will be no more from Type O.

Saw Tool play at Red Rocks twice earlier this summer. It was great to see them play again, however Maynard is having a bit of trouble keeping up with some of the more demanding vocal arrangements, and he seems to have become quite the wino since starting his own vineyard.

currently rotating The Cure - Pornography, Disintegration, and Staring at the Sea. I love their old stuff.

Secretly (though perhaps not anymore) I am a huge fan of The Cure. Staring at the Sea is one of my favorite albums. I am also an even bigger Depeche Mode fan, and really enjoy Echo and the Bunnymen, Bauhaus, Love and Rockets, Sisters of Mercy, and many other "post-punk" bands.

Right now though I have been listening to the latest album by Combichrist. It is pretty crazy.

Yesterday I had Grieg and other orchestral works (Budapest Strings) playing, and some choral music as well. Additionally a bunch of Chick Corea and Branford Marsalis.

I just picked a tune a couple of days ago (Blondie) and started playing and it went down alphabetically through the "Artists". The day before yesterday I had Bonnie Pink and Sibelius playing, as well as some Celtic stuff.

Today I may reset it elsewhere. Maybe Led Zeppelin or Yes or Jimi. I tend to choose something I am in the mood for and hit play and just let it keep playing. Depending on how much of that stuff I have, it may go through a wide variety of other stuff (or may never get out of -- I have a lot of Yes and Zep) before I get around to changing again.

The Rev (A7X's drummer for those who aren't into the band) revered Portnoy, and based his drumming style on him. So when the Rev died of "natural causes" (i.e. the body's natural reaction to that much heroin), they apparently asked Portnoy to help them finish the Nightmare album. Things went from there. As to motivations, who knows? I'm sad he left DT. But I like A7X, and Portnoy makes them even better.

Smashing Pumpkins were the finest musicians from 1991- 1995 imho...those 4yrs. and the few albums they cut during that period I believe will be popular for years and years to come.

If I talk Smashing Pumpkins, I also have to talk Oasis...what a waste they were, they were the real deal imho and the Gallagher brothers were babies but musical genius babies nonetheless.

When I first started listening to music regularly I was in the 6th grade. I stuck with classical (mainly Baroque and Classical, but some Renaissance and Romantic). Bach is by far my favorite, specifically his Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin. I soon started to branch out and included classic rock, blues, and eventually contemporary popular music to include rap/hip-hop.

I can tolerate most music genres, as I usually will find some type of appreciation for differing styles. With that being said classical will always be my favorite.

I leave you with Joaquín Rodrigo, a 20th Century Spanish composer. Most of his compositions were nationalistic and definitely evoke a Spanish flavor. The following is the final movement to Concierto Andaluz, first performed in 1967.

Concierto Andaluz - III. Allegretto (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRSs3Xw4xr4)

Been hard not to listen to Frank Turners "love ire & song" (Specifically the title track song "Love Ire & Song") over and over lately. Give it a listen if you're not familiar, listen closely to the lyrics; they are ****ing great, and not what you would expect from the typical musician. A very educated and wise man Frank Turner is. Check his stuff out if you haven't heard him, he is really a great singer/songwriter with a lot to say.

Yeah, I never thought of it that way, but he is reminiscent of Shane McGowan, but a bit more sober.

McGowan is one of my all time favorites; he is a sight to see live- with any of his projects. The pogues have a special place in my heart and always will.

I'm glad I could turn you on to Frank Turner, he is really a rarity in the musical world; and I should know; (First hand experience in the industry) there are just too many ignorant musicians churning out chum for the typical psychofant fan-boy these days. It is great to hear someone who is genuine and original.

He also fronted "Million dead" prior to his solo career; check them out as well they rock.
