how do you get to the gas tube to clean it?

This is my first ar and I'm not 100 % sure to go about disassembling the front of the rifle. Do I need to unscrew the 2 standard screws and remove the urx? I just don't want to mar any of the surfaces without reason and take something off that I shouldn't

Help is appreciated.

You don't...at all.;)

There are tens of thousands of pounds of gas pressure shooting back through the gas tube every time you fire it. It's clean enough. Certainly don't go sticking things in it from either side, you're more likely to break something off in there that will cause problems.

Yep you don't need to clean the inside of the gas tube. I do spray brake cleaner down mine but thats just to make sure all the solvents are sprayed out esp since I use foaming bore cleaner.

You also do not need to take the gas block off.

Just clean the bolt carrier group, chamber, and the fire control group. You really only need a light cleaning every 1-2K rounds. Just keep it lubed well, and you'll be alright. Id maybe do a more detailed cleaning every 4-5k rounds.

Ive got ~12k through my SR15 so far, and couldn't be happier with it!
