I was in a local gunshop doing some holster shopping for my stainless USPc 9mm. I purchased the gun back in 2005 used for $500. It's never given me a problem.

Turns out the shop owner is kind of a HK fan. He offers me an even trade for a NIB P2000 in .40.

I don't want to get into a caliber discussion because I like 9s, 40s, 45s ect....

I've held P2000s before and like that they have no manual safety. The safety on the USP tends to get in my way when shooting thumbs forward. I have accidentally decocked the USP before while firing because I want to rest my thumb on the safety like a 1911. Plus it is a new gun with a lifetime warranty.

Besides the fact HK is not importing the stainless slides anymore is there a downside to the trade?

I know there was a thread on barfcom about the P2000 being junk, it kind of sounded like an HK hater.

I like you have difficulty with the decoker on the USP series. I much prefer the interchangeable grip, grip texture, and decoker placement of the P2000. The P2000 story on that forum was due to neglect in a saltwater environment. I say go for it.

Long story short, I'd do it in a heart beat!

I like the P2000, especially the LEM models, so I'd definitely make the trade.

P2000's are bitchin' pistols. Go for it.

I used to own a 9mm P-2000 back in 2004. My only regret was selling it. Go for it! :D

I have the USPc and the P2000SK, both LEM in .40S&W. If you had a DA/SA USP now regardless of the shinny SS slide, I would recommend that that you trade and get the P2000. It is an awesome pistol that is as close to fully ambidextrous as you are ever going to find in a pistol.

That's a hard one for me because I love my USPc SS 40. But IF you want the P2000 make the trade. Heck see if you can get a P30.

I have a fondness for the USP for some unknown reason and I don't think that you would be wrong for keeping it. That said I like the way the P2000 feels and shoots better, so unless there is some sentimental connection I would jump on the deal. YMMV

You can easily convert your USP to LEM and get rid of the safety lever.
I did it to my USP 9C (stainless slide) and it became a whole new gun. I also own a P2000/LEM. It's very nice but I would not trade the 9C for it.

I've had a USPc in 9mm and in 45. I now have a P2000 in 9mm. I definetly prefer and shoot better with the P2000 :)

I got the P2000. I have to admit I like it better than the USP. Thanks for all input.

Now you need a P30 to compliment the P2000.

I have never shot any of the two but in money talk; you did damn well! Congratz OP, Good trade!

The P2000 is one hell of a gun. It is the HK I would buy right now if I decided to sell off my G19 and G26--at least until the rumored striker-fired HK pistol arrives.

I know there was a thread on barfcom about the P2000 being junk, it kind of sounded like an HK hater.

Take much of what you read over there about H&K handguns with a tablespoon or two of salt. There are a lot of people who have precisely zero experience with H&K handguns who, nevertheless, feel perfectly qualified to run their suck about them.

I've never heard of any major fragility issues with the P2000...and by now if it was some sort of systemic problem I'm sure at least one of the regulars around here would have heard about it. Speaking as a guy who carried a USP compact for a while, I greatly prefer the updated ergonomics of the P2000/P30 series handguns and I'd choose one over a USP in a heartbeat.
