View Full Version : Any recs for cheap and relatively accurate practice .223/5.56 ammo?

I noticed .223/5.56 ammo is dropping in price as of late, and being now that I have an AR, I am very interested in getting some practice in. I have a Colt LE6940, which has a 1:7 twist barrel.

I have been shooting PMC .223 and Federal M855.

As far as practice ammo goes, are they more or less all the same as far as accuracy goes? I noticed some nice sales on Federal AE .223. Is this stuff decent? Any others recs for cheap and relatively accurate ammo?

Thanks.

For practice purposes you might consider bulk XM193 or Prvi.

Also, try this: http://www.ammunitiontogo.com/catalog1/index.php/cName/rifle-ammo-223-556

Just select what bullet type you prefer and a host will come up. They are good people.

Thankfully, the ammo shortage/price gouging seems to be at an end (at least in mainstream calibers).

American Eagle is OK unless you plan to reload the brass. Federal .223/5.56 brass is not known for withstanding multiple loadings - usually exhibited by loose primer pockets.
