Blog link (http://vuurwapenblog.com/2010/06/29/ar-15-weight-calculator-2/)

One common topic of discussion relating to AR-15s is weight.

Frequently, someone will want to know what a certain accessory will weigh, or how much difference there is between a heavy barrel and a light barrel, and so on.

I have created a very simple calculator (http://www.545ar.com/calc.html) – with links to resources from other websites – that will assist those who are looking for the total weight of their weapon. I cannot guarantee that it will be perfectly accurate, given variables relating to manufacturing processes and scale calibration, but it should provide a fairly accurate weight assessment.

It is a work in progress, so please excuse the rather boring appearance for now. More data will be added to the vuurwapenblog.com “Stock and Optic Weights” page soon.

I would like to thank 03designgroup.com (USMC03) and tacticalyellowvisor.net (rob_s) for allowing me to reference the data they have painstakingly compiled over the past few years.

That's pretty cool.

I ran my M&P15T through it adding what's not covered by the categories into the 'Misc' slot and the estimate of 8.1 lbs. is very close to my carbine as weighed (8.3 lbs).

Excellent resource, just needs to add a bit more data (LMT SOPMOD stock, USGI 14.5 upper, grips etc etc). Def sticky worthy.

MUCH easier to use, thank you. Now if you could only add a little more data and you'll be set!

Very nice 87gn!

Agreed.

Have you considered breaking it down a bit further? The lower drop down specifically? Otherwise as the option increase, identifying the proper set of components is going to get more and more difficult.

And here are two more weights that could be added...

LMT Sopmod Stock ( Gen 1 ): 11.5 ozs.
VLTOR EMOD: 14.2 ozs.

If you have a need for additional weights let me know. There is a good chance I have the item and can weight it for you.

Nice work. Now I don't gotta open 25 websites to find weight specs.

Done, when I started out I had a few options there, then it sort of ballooned. Broke it down. Added the Sopmod as well.

Any other weights you could provide would be helpful. I am trying to minimize the number of scales that I reference in order to keep variances to a minimum, but I am sure that you have an accurate one.

Broke down the upper assembly as well to allow for one piece uppers/handguards and the ability to plug in a wider variety of barrel weights (once I get them).

Thanks, added many more barrel weights and other items today. Just received a new AR today and found that the calculator was off by ~.1lb compared to its weight on my scale. I then realized that I'd left out pistol grips (new one has a MIAD) so that will be next on the list.

Awesome site. After putting together a build with a Noveske SS barrel as well as a Beowulf, I think my next AR will be a lightweight one :D

Can you please add the 11" rail that Noveske uses? I looked on SWS' website but they only show a 12" and a 9". Thanks!

Wow that is awesome! You had just about everything that's on my Mk18Mod1 bastard clone- even the 12.5" CA barrel!

Eotech 553 would be nice, as I'm sure would be many optics but I know you're going to get that all in as time allows.

When we select G5 for suppressor, do we select A2 FH and it figure in the slight difference between G5 mount and A2, if any? Doesn't matter, it's a pretty cool calculator as it is!

Oh- a TD stubby in ADM mount would be good under list of VFGs.

What's a magpul MVG or RVG? I've held one of them but don't know which...

Thanks 87GN!

Thank you for your hard work.

My next build (when the kids stop taking all my money) will come in at 9.1 lbs.

Please continue to add to this great resource! I have been pushing around the idea of an extremely light weight KISS AR-15 and this would be invaluable!

Thanks for taking the time to set this up.

Thanks. I will add as many items as I can get precise weights for as soon as possible. No suppressor mounts yet, but I will add them as well.

The MVG is a vertical grip designed for MOE handguards and the RVG is meant to go on a rail.

That site needs to update with newer products, not a lot of the stuff out there are on there but I tried to get as close as I can and weight in at 8.23 lbs....so pretty close :D

It's preferred, if one is going to necropost a nearly-3-year-old thread, that it's in some way that ADDS to the topic.
