is this common? i tried my pmags on his gun and they didnt drop free either. we tried about 20 and only 1 drop free (the one i shaved too much of)

i have old and new stock. the old ones have been shaved and should all work, but they dont. is this a manufacture defect? it ll drop usgi mags just fine.

It's not a manufacturer's defect. The SCAR was designed to work only with GI mags. Anything else is a bonus.

The latest edition of Pmags should drop free.

Normal. Saw a SCAR in a recent class. Would not even run with a PMAG (rounds kept popping out). Switch to the TD ARC mag and all was better (and they dropped free).

My SCAR 16S won't drop anything free except GI Aluminum mags. Not Pmags, not TangoDown ARC Mags, not Lancers (which won't seat either).

I have not tried the Emags yet, since GI mags are half the price.

Which gen of ARC mags have you tried?

I have some of the early ones (from when they only came in black) and those actually DO drop free. I also have some later ones in FDE that do NOT drop free. I'm not sure of the "generation" or version number of them, but I'll look and see.

The following black ARC mags DO drop free:

The following FDE ARC mags do NOT drop free:

Those were all the markings and/or differences I could find between the two.

did your friend get Rev M pmags? The pre-RevM where a little thicker and RevM increased compatibility with a lot of magwells.

Another vote for the new emags. My friend had them for his SCAR and they run fine and drop free

EMAGs should be fine in the SCAR 16S. For some reason, don't ask me why, but PMAGs have no issues whatsoever in the Mk16 military variant, but are hit or miss with the 16S.

I think the issue with there being differences between the .mil Mk16 and the .civ SCAR 16S is that the 16S is imported into the US in a "banned" configuration (ie, a blocked magwell, etc.) and "debanned" in the US. From looking up in the magwell, it looks like that involves milling out a steel insert in the magazine well.

Maybe some of the current/past FN employees can correct me if I'm wrong.

Rev M pmags don't work with my 16S, but I've heard from some people who don't have issues with them.

sand the magwell, not the mags. mine was tight with everything except USGI. sanded the mag well carefully and ALL mags drop free now.

What part of the magwell did you sand? Front, back, or sides?

E mags work perfectly in mine. P mags work too, but just don't drop free.
