They don't. One is a ford Taurus (old crappy style) and the other is 7 series BMW.

The DPMS is more of a bench rifle. It's an accurate rifle for sure, but it's not something I'd want to jump out of a plane into Afghanistan with.

Not to hijack, but cool enough to sell my beowulf and numbers matching excellent Austrian stg58 to get one? I'm really tempted -- ah the agony -- GULP -- Thinking it would be a better all around collapse 2 platforms into 1

I went with the LMT, should be here on Saturday. This is the most I have ever paid for a firearm, much more than I even paid for my Nighthawk Talon II.
I'm really looking forward to it.
Next step is a scope and that will be sometime down the road.

Hey! I have a 1995 Ford Taurus with 108,000 miles that I drove to the last class you had. I still would not buy a DPMS.:D

Dpms cannot compare to LMT. I can't believe the questions was even asked. It may be an accurate rifle but it's like white trash trying to get into a black tie affair.

I known this is gonna cause a shit storm, but the facts are the facts. I have a close friend who is a very well known comp. shooter who shoots DPMS .308's. He said he has 30,000 rds through one of his rifles. Yes, 30,000 rds and he told me he had the barrel replaced 3 times now and nothing else. I know he is not a BS-er and I take him at his word, he has zero reason to tell me otherwise. This was during a previous conversation when I asked him how is .308 was doing in comp for him.

Do not shoot the messenger, I am just relaying what I was told. I do not have a DPMS so I am not trying to support either one. Others may have good or bad experiences with them. Who knows, maybe he has gotten lucky!

One educated WT in a trailer park doesn't mean trailer parks are normally filled with Ph.Ds.

Very true. Yes, this is one rifle, so not a good sampling. However, I am not so sure I would say ALL DPMS are built like a POS either. I am also not saying the DPMS is better, just reporting what I was told.

GA Precision likes to use DPMS as a base rifle for their precision AR style .308's because they like to make it as difficult on themselves as possible when building highly accurate and reliable semi auto rifles.

http://www.gaprecision.net/ga-precision-2010-custom-rifles/ga-precision-precision-ar-10.html

Otherwise they'd never use a Taurus like the DPMS right? I mean, God forbid they might think it's a good base rifle.

Actually, it's probably more like they don't want to use an Armalite receiver, because SR25 is the de facto standard magazine and receiver style, and few people are going to buy a $5000 KAC and send it to GAP for another $3000 worth of (unnecessary, at that point) work to get it to shoot right.

Also, they're probably not using many DPMS parts by the time they get done.

Armalite just need to start making uppers that will take the URX rail and lowers that use SR-25 mags.

I just wish all the companies would decide on a standard, I think the SR-25 is the way to go and IMO its what Eugene Stoner would want.

He never wanted m-14 mags in his 308 rifle.

No comparison. The LMT is light years better than the DPMS.

I know of Oly AR's with high round counts. When looking at a firearm, you have to look at the bigger picture (materials used, how it is assembled, knowledge of the manufacturer, etc). DPMS does not have a track record for excellence.
