Can someone tell me if the gas port on a 14.5 inch Noveske light barrel would be the same as a gas port size on an 11.5" barrel. I am debating cutting the barrel down to 11.5" but was concerned about it running right. I may still sell the upper and just build it from scratch but I really love their hammer forged barrels. I wish they built an 11.5" upper with them. Any idea?

if there's a size difference, the port will be smaller than you need, rather than larger.. so you could open the port if you so chose to during the chop.

cant give you any data, however. i've never possessed either barrel to have measured, and noveske doesn't seem to be forthcoming with some of their processes. my guess is the port on the 14.5 is currently .062"

Like what BKB said, it would have a smaller gasport in its current 14.5 state. A good shop like Adco would know exactly what to do.
On a side note, Centurion Arms has a 12.5 LW barrel of similar, if not the same spec as Noveske's HF barrels with the addition of a tapered bore for accuracy. I believe they also carry 11.5 and 10.5 factory cut-downs of their 12.5.

No, the 11.5" barrel needs a larger gas port. The gas port can be drilled to the correct diameter when the barrel is cut.

We do have the 10.5" barrels available now.

OP- are you thinking doing the chop yourself, or having it done somewhere?

Thanks for the input. I am not 100% sure I will do it but it is something I am considering. I would have someone do it for me. I really do not have the proper equipment to cut a barrel and re-thread it. I think I may just sell the upper and get the 11.5" config. instead.

do you guys use the standard numbered-gauge and fractional drills, or do you have custom sizes for ports?
