Saw quite a few things happening in the news and thought I'd post a few. It sounds like the guy in this first story handled himself pretty well.

TN - Robbers pick wrong target; two shot, one killed by gun-toting victim. http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2010/jul/03/robbers-pick-wrong-target/

Two would-be robbers forgot to ask their victim a key question:

Do you have a gun and know how to use it?

Data Center: Search handgun-carry permits. The 21-year-old Bartlett man's answer might have prevented the two 16-year-olds from being shot.

Instead, an exchange of gunfire between the Bartlett man and the robbers Wednesday night left one teenager dead and the other wounded.

Alyssa Moore, a spokeswoman for Memphis police, said authorities have not released the names of the robber who was killed or the other teenager, who was in noncritical condition.

The robbery portion of the case is still under investigation and charges are pending. State prosecutor Thomas Henderson said Friday the office will not prosecute the potential robbery victim, saying his actions appear justified.

The man, who works for a local gun range, declined comment Friday. He asked that his name not be published because authorities told him the attempted robbery may be gang-related.

The shootout occurred about 10 p.m. Wednesday at the Edgewater Apartments east of Sycamore View and south of Raleigh-LaGrange.

According to Moore, one of the suspects fired at the man during an attempted robbery.

The victim, who was within 3 feet of one robber and about 10 from the other, fired five shots, four of them striking the would-be robbers.

According to the state Department of Public Safety, the potential victim is a licensed handgun permit holder.

An Inkster homeowner fatally shot a man who had broken into his house early this morning, according to police.

Two intruders, one of them armed, confronted the 25-year-old when he got out of bed around 1:20 a.m. and he started fighting with them, Inkster Detective Anthony Delgreco said.

The homeowner then grabbed his legally registered gun and fired.

A 32-year-old Detroit man was killed, but his alleged accomplice fled, Delgreco said. The homeowner was cut over his eye.

According to investigators, nothing is missing from the home on the 29000 block of Parkwood.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the second intruder. Tipsters are asked to call 1-800-SPEAKUP.

http://www.thearmedcitizen.com/2010/07/05/florida-armed-robber-in-delray-beach-killed-in-shootout-with-store-clerk-police-say/

A man who tried to rob a convenience store at gunpoint ended up being killed by the store clerk Saturday night, according to police.

The apparent robber, who has not been identified, ran into the Community Food Market at 139 Northwest Fifth Ave. around 10 p.m. and tried to rob the store, according to a police report.

A clerk saw the man with the gun and ducked behind the counter before the robber started shooting at the clerk. The clerk grabbed a gun from behind the counter and returned fire, hitting the robber.

After the shootout, the clerk ran from the store and called 911, according to the report. Police found the would-be robber lying on the ground in front of the store still clutching a semiautomatic handgun in his right hand. He had been shot once in the chest.

The man was taken to Delray Medical Center, where he died.

The clerk, who was not injured, was questioned but was not taken into custody, said Delray Beach police spokesman Jeff Messer.

Messer said police are investigating to see if the man is connected to any other unsolved robberies in the city.

Anyone with information on the incident can call the Delray Beach police at (561) 243-7800, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-458-TIPS (8477).
