I decided on getting a Remington but I'm not sure if I should get the SPS Tactical or the LTR.
I'm planning to put a AICS thumb hole stock on it later.Would it be better just to get the SPS rather than the LTR?
Thanks in advance to your replies.
I've had an LTR for a few years. I like it a lot but if you are going to replace the stock, you'd save some money buying the SPS.
If you are going to replace the stock, definitely save the money and get the SPS

That's what I thought too but not really sure if the LTR has better features than the SPS other than the fluted barrel.
Thanks fellas!
take a look at the AAC model 700, its only like $20 more in msrp and has a 1:10 twist which will allow you to shoot heavier bullets than the 1:12 like on the sps and ltr. I have an sps and it definitely prefers the 168's to the 175's.

Yeah I've looked at the AAC and didn't really notice that it has a different twist. Thanks for pointing that out.

If you can find one.

In general, a 1:12 will shoot 175s just fine. Heck, if it didn't, the USMC wouldn't be using them in their M40Ax guns.
Every gun is going to have a preferred load, it's often not the same load as another identically equipped gun. I've seen a 100 fps variation in FGMM match between two fairly new Rem 700Ps. That fps variation is enough to push a known good load out of it's sweet spot.
Yea definitely not a set in stone statement, just my sample size of one. The 175's shot around .75 while the 168s were closer to .5 moa. Need to shoot the thing more though.

100 yards means nothing to me.. For what it worth IMO if your going to shoot long you might want to think about this.
175 = 1000 yards
168 IMO = 600 yards..
Food for thought.. ;)
If you can get to a Dic_'s Sporting Goods, they have a varmint barrel ADL with cheap scope and camo stock and what look to be halfway decent bases and rings for under $500. Same action and barrel as the rest. If you plan to upgrade the stock later, you might as well upgrade metal at the same time.
The SPS AAC-SD in an AICS stock:

I just had this put togher for under 1200 total something to think about.
FN SPR 300 WSM
McMillan Stock
Had the trigger tuned, lugs lapped, muzzle brake instaled, and stock work done by Kevin Cram at Montour County Rifles. Has a chrome lined bore should last awhile same barrel as 240B MG. You can get one in 308 win if you want and I think CDNN still has a few.

RSR had at least 1 as of yesterday... :D
If you're planning on replacing the stock, you might consider replacing the barrel as well - in that case, all you need is the cheapest ADL model you can find in whatever caliber you want.
That's what I did on my second R700 - I spent some extra cash on the first one and got the SPS Varmint model and ended up with nicer take-off parts to give away.

In general, Remington 700's have very little work done to their action until you get to the custom shop, PSS or 40X rifles. So...get the SPS and play with a AICS, if you haven't already, before you buy. Here's my 700 SPS-V that sits (with glass) for right at $2k.

And here was the last group I shot at 300:
- Shot #1 = Hole on the left
- Shot #2 = (not pictured) above the 1st hole outside the rim of the coin
- Shot #3 = Hole on the right
