H&R model 999 main spring problem-help

I received a new main spring from Midwest and it is to short.
The old one is a close fit to the old original . The location against the bottom of the hammer is the only way it can be installed.
What could I be doing wrong? any suggestion, Thanks

Send it back if it's the wrong part. Consult a local gunsmith.
