I would like to change my charging handle out with a BCM Gunfighter, but I am not sure which one to get the Mod 3 or Mod 4. It looks like the larger Mod 3 would be too big, but I was wanting to know what other members experiences are with the Mod 3 versus the Mod 4? Any personal info would be appreciated. Thanks

I've got 4's in all of my carbines and prefer the smaller footprint I used to use Badger tac latches, then the smaller Badgers, and now these. As a left hander I think it gives me more positive control and doesn't get in the way like the larger latches did, hanging on slings, or gear and everything else.

I went with the Mod 4 for my personal gun, and my dept. issue gun. The Mod 4 is actually fairly big, and is certainly big enough. Way better than a standard charging handle, but not HUGE like the Mod 3.

I'm an oddball I guess, because I prefer the larger Mod 3 GF CH. I like having the larger metal latch to grab ahold of and quickly pull it to the rear. Of course, I initially ran the Mod 4 for a while before switching primarily to the Mod 3 in my guns, and I never had an issue with NOT being able to grab ahold of the smaller Mod 4 and charging the weapon... so I guess it really boils down to personal preference in the end.

+1 Mod4.

It really surpassed all the hype and my own expectations. Being southpaw I have to put a considerable amount of pressure into the weapon instead of mostly straight back with a standard CH. With the Mod4 I can just swipe at it and it engages and it's not so big it becomes obtrusive.

Mod 4's on all mine as well. The 3's handle protrudes too much and creates an unnecessary snag hazard, for me anyways. If I was in the market for a 7.62 AR, I'd probably go the Mod 3 route.

4's in guns with RDS's and 3's with guns with scopes.

I have the larger one. Next time I will get the smaller one but I don't mean to imply that I don't like the large handle.

Both are fantastic compared to a standard charging handle.

I'm with reteat, i run the #3 on 4 rifles[AR's] 1 gas buster PRI,spr AR, and we put an 308 #4 on a co-workers LMT mrp308 rifle. as a lefty it works great w/plenty to grab when practicing malfunction drills, have not had any equipment[plate carrier or sling] issues hanging up thus far,

Mod 3 for me.

I happy with my Mod 4, and can't imagine needing or wanting it any larger. Mod 4 will stick into the gut a little when slung, but it's not bad. I know the mod 3 would be worse.

I have one mod 4 and it’s more then big enough for me. I think I’m going to try the mod 5 next.

As noted above, Mod3s work well with large-ocular-lens scopes.

Mod4s for anyting else.

Mod 4 for me. Big enough to get purchase on, not too big to jab me.

Mod 3 here - running with larger optic.

Mod 4 running a RDS and haven't had any problems.
I would probably get a Mod 3 if I had a rifle scope just for the added clearance and leverage.

Thanks to everyone for the info, I was leaning toward the mod 4 and I will probably go with it.

the mod 4 is the perfect size. get 1 or 10.

Mod 4. It's the perfect size w/o snagging issues.

Usually it doesn't matter to me as I change out the latch anyway. However as mentioned with a scoped rifle I opt for the Mod3. If I were going to leave the stock latches on the Gunfighter on a carbine, then I prefer the Mod4.

This is probably going to be a stupid question but will either of these charging handles fit any carbine. I just bought a Rugger 556c and are wanting to change out the charging handle also.

Yes, it will go into any AR15 upper.

I've been trying to decide between the two myself. Being left handed I reach over and grap the latch with my right hand.
I've always ran the badger's oversized latch, but the 3 looks like it might be a little too large from pics I've looked at.

Seems that most southpaws are sticking with the 4, I'll probably follow.

Mod 4 is a little pokey for me. Mod 5 looks perfect.

4's in guns with RDS's and 3's with guns with scopes.

Really?

I have the Mod3 my carbine with an Aimpoint now and have a Mod4 waiting to go into the SPR I am building which will sport the Nightforce 2.5-10 that I just sent you payment for ;)

I was thinking [and with very little experience to back it up] that with a home defence or SHTF gun like my carbine, I would want the larget latch because if I have to rack the gun in a hurry, the larget one would be easier to get a hold of and pull to the rear. Whereas with the "precision" rifle, I can be a little more calm with my actions and have a little longer to get my hand on the charging handle.

I also find that I do not grab the charging handle directly from behind/over the top with two fingers but from the left, on just the latch alone with the side of my index finger, having the larget latch helps me do this quicker without having my hand slip off.

Hmmm.. maybe I will have to reevaluate my thinking and try both Mod3 and 4 back to back at the range.

Just bought a mod 4 (7.62) to run in my .308 rifle, almost considered the larger version but the snagging hazard bugged me.

Not to threadjack, but how do these compare to the PRI Gas Buster CH in preventing gas leaks back at the shooter's eyes?

Both frankly don't do much at all. Pat Rogers has a trick where you use a silicone sealant to plug the area between the CH and the upper part of the CH cutout on the receiver. But the gas busters don't bust much gas.

FWIW, I use a Mod 3 (Large) on my patrol carbine (ACOG/docter) and on my .223 DM rifle (which has a Leupold scope).
The large latch works well on the precision gun because the extra room on the latch lets you get a hold of it from the side without the scope bell or the flip covers getting in the way. I was working with this today in fact, and trust me, its a lot nicer than smaller latches in this application.
However, the large latch on the ACOG'ed gun, at least for me, gets caught in the straps of my chest rig, and occasionally in my comm wires when in a SWAT environment. Not so much on the gun with the larger scope.

I'm thinking of switching the large latch out out with the medium one I have on my HD gun.

They look about like the LMT tac latch.... as far as protrusion goes. But you get the design benefits of the gunfighter.

Got my BCM Gunfighter Mod 4 yesterday and put it on, it works great. I can't believe how much better this works compared to the mil spec issue. I can't wait to try it out for real. Thanks for all the info from everyone.

4 for red dot type sights, 3 for scopes. Best latch I've used.

Both will get the job done. I would also advise 3 for scope mounted. Another thing I noticed while T&E is that mod 3 pokes and is bothersome while using a single point sling. Here are some pics if you're curious about size difference.comparison pics (http://www.comentakeit.com/bcmgunfighter-charging-handle.html)

I tried both the Mod 3 and 4. The Mod 3 worked better for me. I run either a M68 or Leu. in a LT mounth depending on the need. I hadnt had any snag issues with it yet and it works 'better' than the badger I was previously using. I had my bro try them both and he ended up liking the Mod 4 better. Go figure. :)
