Just like the title says, I'm looking for a good quality left handed upper. I haven't really seen any around.......certainly not from a top tier company.

If I can't find a good one, perhaps someone could recommend a good shell deflector to either spit the brass more at a forward angle, or straight down? Thanks.

although, im not sure that qualifies for "top tier" but it defeats getting hot brass up your nose.

Why on Earth would you want that crap?

Ambi controls (for everything) are available...

I shoot lefty just fine with a standard upper... even better than I do right handed... all rifles should have the ejection port IN PLAIN SIGHT for diagnostics... (ie... rifles are MADE for us...)

... besides... left handed shooters getting hit by their own brass is a thing of the past.

I love it that most firearms are perfect for us lefties... without the "engineers" even knowing it lol:rolleyes:

Thanks. I'm not too keen on Stag uppers, but it might be the best solution. Maybe I'll try to go with just the Stag receiver and build around that. This is actually for my wife who is right handed but is left eye dominant. She likes to shoot handgun, but she's not too crazy about the AR since she gets brass down her shirt a lot. Anything to get her comfortable with shooting a rifle.

Does the rifle in question have a brass deflector?

Standard Colt A2 upper receiver with deflector.

You need to use a barrel with an AMBI barrel extension.

Standard Colt A2 upper receiver with deflector.

Weird.

As a lefty, the only time I get brass on my neck is when it bounces off the side of the indoor range I shoot at and down my neck. A shemagh scarf works good for that.

I've played with some of the shell deflectors on the market when I owned retro AR's. All those did was drop hot brass on my arm. Maybe they'll work for your wife.

You can also look at a brass catcher if you don't want to buy a whole upper.

I would look to lefthandrifles.com as well, were it not for the fact that I tend to view LH uppers about as necessary as flannel pajamas for cats.

I'm an M-16A1-era soldier, and ate more than my share of brass as a young infantryman in the early-/mid-80s; that said, these are problems that haven't been extant for more than 20 years now, and the standard A2 pattern upper makes it a complete non-issue.

If you are really, really, really looking for some kind of justification, I guess you might find it if you're shooting a sub-10" barreled AR that is (a) suppressed, (b) shooting filthy ammo, and (c) sporting a standard charging handle ... but even then, you still aren't going to be taking spent casings to the face.

Do whatever you wish, but keep in mind that there are legions of southpaw AR shooters out there -- including this one -- who are doing just fine with the standard A2 upper configuration. Mods to the standard lower (Norgon release, ambi selector) are infinitely more useful, and much easier to find/service/replace.

Not an AR but twice the cost; the FN FS2000 is a very ambidextrous rifle.
